This raises some of the issues I have been researching as some cities have defunded police & moved to allocate those funds to Social Services. There is a real problem related to the mentally ill and prisons that has been ignored/allowed to fester for many years. But,
There are also other issues - such as the extensive power Social Services has to launch an investigation into your home/family, (in many states it takes just three calls/complaints), the use of this power as a political weapon, especially if wielded by political opponents,
The ability of Social Services to enter your home anytime once an investigation is launched, their power to take your children away, their power to pull your children out of their classes at school and so on. The list is long. If you read Antifa social media sites, there are
calls for supporters to call social services to file complaints against political targets. And when you look at the criminal complaints/records of those arrested, there are social workers, teachers, foster youth “guidance counselors” or “life coaches” among those charged. And..
When you then look at various pediatric associations and the language/policies they are advocating for/writing about, they share the same ideological ground. Which may not seem to matter, but as I try to understand all sides, I consider also what it means for the principles
Implicit in medical care vs politically defined/framed medical care and so on. Foster kids are among the most vulnerable of all children and the record shows our society/institutions fail them all the time. We used to be able to report on these issues easily...
