Fenrir was one of the offsprings of Loki. He is depicted as a large wolf, larger than any animal that walked the earth, with red eyes and razor sharp teeth. Fenrir was raised amongst the Asgardian gods and he quickly learnt their languages. What was once a little wolf cub was now
a large wolf. The Asgardian gods hatched a plan to bind Fenrir. They made chains long enough to bind Fenrir in hopes that those chains would hold back the strong wolf. Not to alert Fenrir of their intentions, Odin set a challenge before Fenrir. Although the wolf was evil and...
cruel, he was still a cub at heart and he enjoyed playtime. Odin challenged Fenrir to break out of the chains they would put around him. Not suspecting the gods of anything, Fenrir agreed and easily broke out of those chains. This action angered the gods who realized a stronger
chain would have to be made. Again, the gods made a chain and went to meet Fenrir. The same challenge was placed before Fenrir and he once again let the gods place the chains around him while he tried to break free. The chains proved to be stronger this time around and this...
pleased the gods but what happened next would shock the gods. With all the strenght he had, Fenrir destroyed the chains around him and the plans of the gods to bind him. The gods were in shock at the wolf's massive strenght. The looks on their faces caused the wolf to have his
suspicions about their intentions.
As their second attempt of chaining Fenrir was destroyed, the gods decided that the only people capable of building a chain strong enough to contain Fenrir were the dwarves of Nidavellir.
The dwarves agreed to make the chains and sent Odin a
list of ingredients needed to make the chains. The ingredients were quite unusual; the sound of a cat's footsteps, the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, the sinews of a bear, the breath of a fish, and the spittle of a bird. When the ingredients were gathered, the dwarves
began their work. The gods were given a thin rope that was made of silk, but the power contained in it did not match its appearance.
Fenrir was once again challenged by the gods to break free of the rope, but this time, Fenrir already had his suspicions of the Asgardian gods.
Odin assured Fenrir that this was only a mere game, but Fenrir never got along with Odin. This was expected seeing as Fenrir was the son of Loki and could smell the lies coming from Odin. Fenrir only agreed to be tied up if one of the gods would put their arm in the mouth of
the wolf. The gods looked at each other and this only raised Fenrir's suspicions. The god Tyr offered himself to put his hand inside the wolf's mouth. Fenrir agreed to be tied again but this time, he could not break free. He noticed the satisfaction on the faces of the gods.
Looking at Tyr, Fenrir saw he was the only one who did not look happy. Fenrir knew he had been betrayed by the gods and even by his only friend Tyr. He clenched his teeth and bit off the arm of Tyr. The god took the pain without a single cry and was celebrated for his sacrifice
Fenrir had been firmly tied to a stone, much to the glee of the Asgardian gods. The wolf cried angrily, saying he may have been friends with the gods but now, they were his greatest enemies. Fenrir promised to look for Odin on the battle field during Ragnorak to have his revenge
