This thread includes recollections of the (admittedly very strange) dreams I’ve had during August and September.
Let’s start with a truly inexplicable dream.
In this dream-slash-nightmare, a local college had a Gone With The Wind-themed fundraiser dinner.

In 2020.
I didn’t want to go — at all — but someone affiliated with the school asked me to go with them and help them take pictures of the event.
My acquaintance and I showed up in our street clothes — but everyone else was decked out in full regalia.

I had a bad feeling about the unethical and offensive nature of this event.
I said, “Ahhhh. I don’t want to do this, you know?”

But they handed me a camera and sent me out into the crowd.
While I was taking pictures, a woman in a tacky dress — a dress emblazoned with THOSE flags — fainted.
A few days after the event, the health department sent out a letter.

It described how one of the people at the event had been diagnosed with tuberculosis.

Now, it said, they required everyone in attendance to go get a TB test.
I never found out whether or not I’d been exposed, because I woke up before I could get the test.
That same night, I also dreamed about being roped into cleaning up a small hoard.

It contained all these DVDs of old movies I’d never heard of — movies that don’t even exist in reality.
I suppose the moral of the story — for the first dream, anyhow — is that you shouldn’t go to impertinent events, lest you be exposed to something dangerous.
That dream about the “useless” hoard of DVDs, though — I think that was just a pro-streaming subliminal message.

N*tflix bought ad space in my dreams.
Here’s another one.
I went to a library/museum. Two buildings contained two full collections of books and artifacts.

The best way to describe the setting is to think of a campus on a hill.
The lower building was at the bottom of the hill. The upper building was directly behind it, built into the incline.

The upper building was much bigger, too.
I had to go to the upper building to meet someone. I had to climb steep stairs all the way to the top of the building. No elevator.
Afterward, it felt like I’d walked two miles (on an incline) just to get back downstairs. I could feel a stinging sensation in my thighs.

When I finally made it out of the building, I panicked — I couldn’t find my car.
Instead of searching for my car, I just accepted my fate.

I walked all the way to a drive-in, sat at one of the picnic tables, and ate some fried mushrooms.

After that, I didn’t worry about the car. At all.
I don’t really think there’s a moral to this story — but those must have been some really delicious fried mushrooms.
In other dream, I was asked to come back to work at the public library — for one night only — because they needed someone to cover the shift that starts at 10:30 P.M.
That library has never been open later than 8:00 P.M.

I wonder what the imaginary night shift would entail — except, no, I don’t want to think about what I might find in the stacks.
Here’s another one.
I dreamed that I went on a date or a hangout or something.

Anyway, at one point during our date, I drove my car down a gravel road near a lake.
My date and I had to walk up a steep hill.

When we got to the top, we had to catch snakes.
Everywhere I stepped, there was a snake. Lots of little green snakes.

I was like, “Brad/Evan/Jermaine/Jake, help me!”
And he was a saint. He went and scared a couple of snakes off, and then he caught a few more snakes — including a really big one.
We brought the snakes back to a kitchen and started to cook them(!) alongside some stir-fried rice.
Somehow, I thought I’d been exposed to snake venom. I started to panic. He decided to call an ambulance.
We went outside and stood on his porch. His ex-wife — an elegant, fixed-up lady in a cream-colored trench coat — arrived with their daughter.
I told him to go inside and sit with them, and I said that I could wait for the ambulance myself.
A tow truck with flashing lights drove by and I tried to wave them down — thinking, of course, that the flashing lights were on an ambulance.
The tow truck stopped in front of the house. The men got out and hitched her car to the back — they were repossessing it.
The ambulance finally arrived.

I explained that I’d been exposed to snake venom.

IIRC, I said, “We weren’t doing witchcraft — we were just cooking snakes!”

🥴
They brought me onboard.

Due to ... reasons that weren’t fully explained to me, I had to share my ambulance with a woman who was seven-months pregnant.
My date ran out of the house and came to talk to me, seeing me off. How romantic.
The pregnant woman and I were both scared, but she was very nice to me. She was trying very hard to be upbeat.

I felt like we were both going to be okay — that our fear was worse than our pain.

And then I woke up. I have no idea what happened to us.
That dream was all over the place.

I ... don’t even know where to start, as far as analyzing the thematics.
I’ve always heard things like, “That’s why you don’t eat chocolate/noodles/ice cream before bed!”

But I only had a glass of water before I had THAT dream. Sheesh.
I guess dreams are like free movies.

Sometimes, I have to wonder what the screenwriter is up to.

Just found out about “Geraldene” — that new(ish) Miranda Lambert song.
My family had a Geraldene. Her name was actually Jeri.
Jeri was beautiful. And wild.

I have an entire story about this … because I always have a story.
When I was in high school, I loved reading “obscure” books.

It finally happened.
I was driving home from work in my car — the White Pony.

(It’s the White Pony, because you’re not supposed to ride the White Horse. A little joke for the Laid Back fans.)
I was driving through a low spot, following a semi, when I saw it coming up behind me.

This summer is so hot that, even though I didn’t really plan on having kids before, I’m terrified of having any now.
I don’t want to be responsible for bringing anyone else into this climatic hellscape — which makes me sad, because it shouldn’t be a hellscape now for the folks who are already here.
And I’m like, “Wow, if it’s this bad NOW, what will be happening in ten years?!”
