Did you know that pre-colonial Philippines (before Spaniards came) was a gender non-conforming society?
🌈 A small thread 🌈
Before Spaniards came, Filipinos already had their own system in their communities. Their "leader" being the Datu (male) who decides for the community and are seen as powerful leaders whom citizens have to obey. Aside from Datu, Babaylans/Katalonan (female) were also powerful. ++
They are consulted by the Datu and are believed to have powers so they are mostly in charge of healing the sick, being a midwife, presiding over ritual offerings and etc. Even though the babaylans have to be women, trans-women babaylans were also common++
Ever wondered why Korean men got so mad at Joy for wearing a "WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS" shirt?
✨ A small informative thread ✨
According to World Gender Gap Report 2020, South Korea was ranked 108 out of 153 countries which have closed the *gap between male and female. South Korea has 67% closed the gender gap.
*Gap: inequal opportunities and treatment between two genders
Although the country has progressed a lot in giving equal opportunities to both genders, S. Korea still faces misogyny today. In 2016, the infamous "Gangnam murder" have surfaced where a 34-year-old man stabbed a 23-year-old woman to death in a gender neutral public ++
most people think kpop is "perfect" when in reality it is FAR from perfect--having issues like rampant misogyny in this industry, ryujin is so brave calling out this culture
netizens always target chaeryeong for her ""lacking"" visuals and their comments obviously took a toll on this 19-year old idol who only wants to perform.
we all know how these mean comments affect an individual which sometimes lead to "unfortunate events"
let us be mindful of our comments, be it to an idol or just to a normal person.
let us criticize but never hate anyone.
