The photos showed sophomore broadcasting student Melanie Montermoso with his brother holding a flashlight as she joined her class in a group call meeting at around 7PM to 8PM last Thursday.
The photos were taken by Melanie's sister Zoseth but were uploaded by her classmate in Bicol University, Alexis Ballester. Alexis said she posted the photos because she was inspired by Melanie's dedication.
"Most of us are complaining about mahirap ang online class kahit comfortable kami sa mga bahay namin. Pero siya, umulan man o lumindol gagawin niya lahat for acads. Like nung huli po na lumindol sa kanila, grabe pa rin effort niya to join our class," shared Alexis.
Melanie shared a piece of advice to her fellow students who struggle in online classes:
"Sa mga estudyante na may kagaya ko ang sitwasyon, magtiwala lang na lilipas din itong kasalukuyan naming hinaharap. Wala naman may gusto na magkaroon ng pandemya ngayon.
Ang magagawa lang namin ay magsikap at magpursigi para sa amin at sa aming pamilya. Huwag panghinaan ng loob dahil may mga pamilya naman kaming sumusuporta sa lahat."
In light of the situation of her classmate, Alexis is pushing for #LigtasNaBalikEskwela, a call demanding action from the government to provide equal access to quality education,
by providing students with gadgets and stable internet connection, to ensure that no one is being left behind amid the pandemic.

A Filipino villager plans to be nailed to a wooden cross for the 35th time to reenact Jesus Christ’s suffering in a brutal Good Friday tradition he said he would devote to pray for peace in Ukraine, Gaza and the disputed South China Sea.
Ruben Enaje, a 63-year-old carpenter and sign painter, said he and seven other villagers have registered for the real-life crucifixions, which have become an annual religious spectacle that draws hundreds of tourists in three rural communities in Pampanga province north of Manila.
The gory ritual resumed last year after a three-year pause due to the coronavirus pandemic. It has turned Enaje into a village celebrity for his role as the “Christ” in the Lenten reenactment of the Way of the Cross.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas says the 6.6% inflation in April is within its forecast range of 6.3-7.1%, consistent with the overall assessment that inflation will remain elevated over the near term before gradually decelerating back to target range in end 2023. | @lawagcaoili
@lawagcaoili The balance of risks to the inflation outlook for 2023 and 2024 also remains tilted heavily towards the upside as the potential effect of ongoing supply shortages continues despite the slowdown in food inflation. | @lawagcaoili
