9/11 is a more pleasant anniversary for #HarleyQuinn fans. The character first appearance in the 9/11/92 airing of the #BTAS episode, “Joker’s Favor.”
Although I knew @HamillHimself had been cast as the Joker (replacing Tim Curry), I had no idea my childhood crush, Ms. Calliope Jones herself, Arleen Sorkin was voicing a character. I recognized her voice instantly.
Paul Dini and Arleen Sorkin were friends and my understanding is that he was inspired to base the Harley Quinn character off this scene from DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
Dini thought it’d improve the episode to give Joker a “moll,” someone distinct from his goons. Almost 30 years later, we know how right Dini was.
Harley Quinn is a true breakout character and it's Sorkin’s performance -- that delightful Judy Holiday in BORN YESTERDAY-accented voice -- that’s responsible.
OMG this scene.
Sorkin singing “Amazing Grace” on a kazoo never fails to make me laugh.
Bruce Timm’s original Harley Quinn design is wonderful. Paul Dini wrote some great scripts featuring Harley Quinn.
Arleen Sorkin’s performance is why adults who weren’t born when these episodes aired dress up as Harley Quinn at conventions.
Sorkin retired from playing the character a while back, but it’d be nice if she could be lured back to play Margot Robbie’s Harley’s mom or mentor in a movie. She deserves a big payday.

Was at an event the other day and a very nice white liberal PDXer spoke about how Democrats just aren't doing enough to reach or connect with "people like my brother" -- a rural Oregonian who I assume votes for Trump and other Republicans. This just summed up a key problem for me
For one -- and I say this with all respect -- even the nicest white liberal you'll ever meet most likely has a loved one who is MAGA. That loved one is dearer to them (rightly so!) than my Black ass.
So, these liberals will look at a rising fascist movement and believe it can be reasoned with. Or at least, the problem is that we aren't addressing those poor rural MAGA's true needs.
Now, that midterms are officially over, it’s obvious that Liz Cheney was right. This isn’t a “praise Liz Cheney” tweet. I’m just saying she was right that Trump was an electoral loser and the GOP needed to cut him lose. wonkette.com/how-did-liz-ch…
Before her excommunication, Cheney called out how toxic Trump was in key districts.
Lindsey Graham and other MAGA huffers insisted that Cheney’s opposition to Trump was personal not business.
It’s like when the boring mayonnaise lady tried to beat Marjorie Taylor Greene in the GOP primary. She basically supported ALL THE SAME POLICIES but she would be more acceptable in the country club. Republicans weren’t interested. wonkette.com/sentient-mayo-…
What is “crazy” and “extreme” about Walker’s positions that, say, Brian Kemp or Kelly Loeffler didn’t share?
Bailing on the election wouldn’t have “healed” the party. Also, keep in mind, that by the same standards, Trump was the obvious winner on Super Tuesday but the media/punditry kept insisting his opponents had a chance! Maybe it could go to the convention.
Yes, I get that Republicans/pundits desperately wanted to avoid a Trump nomination but it just looked like two different set of rules.
Cruz was still in the race when Sanders had won far more contests.
“No, you can only take this to convention, staying in to deny your opponent a clear majority IF THAT CANDIDATE IS DONALD TRUMP. That offer doesn’t apply to anyone else."
Trump came within striking distance of Clinton in MN, ME, and NH! That’s because of her softness with white voters (esp. in rural areas). We need those EVs to get to 270! And Biden didn’t struggle in those three states.
The Biden/Clinton performance would argue the point that Black voters are *loyal*. They will turn out for the Democratic nominee. They know what’s at stake. It’s often white voters who are more fickle. And that determines the election.
Sanders might’ve always lost South Carolina but he arguably lost the entire primary in the time period after Nevada, where he attacked the Dem “establishment” (not a great move).
But there’s obviously no scenario where Clyburn endorses a three-time loser over Harris or Booker if they’d won Iowa/NH/NV.
