To be sure, egalitarianism has been eating the world ever since Jesus and, more broadly, the great inversion from glorifying the conquerer to glorifying the martyr.

But now egalitarianism is accelerating.

Invisible hand of egalitarianism: If there’s an opportunity for egalitarianism, someone will seize it.

Software will eventually win out there unless something is ACTIVELY preventing it.

Egalitarianism will eventually win out there unless something is ACTIVELY preventing it.
This is why people worry about the slippery slope.

E.g. Once you let markets into gov't, more markets/$$$ will follow.

Once you let gov't into markets, more gov't will follow.

We have always been egalitarian when being selected, and non-egalitarianism when doing the selecting.

When you seek a job, a partner, a doctor, you do not seek the average job, partner, or doctor, you seek the best.

Why's egalitarianism accelerating?

When you're being watched give a tip, you tip higher than when not being watched

Now we're always being watched, so we signal virtue

Egalitarianism has always been better for optics, and there is nearly no part of our life that escapes optics
Social media has created egalitarian purity spirals unlike anything we've seen before:
Another way of phrasing this is egalitarianism in the streets, non-egalitarianism in the sheets

In fact, the bedroom is the last refuge of non-egalitarianism, although perhaps that'll change soon

Apps make dating outcomes legible, & crowd may pressure more egalitarian outcomes

Here are some of the most interesting books and blog posts that changed my mind in 2022:
Ancient City

TLDR: For 99.9% of our existence, Western society has been a fascist-communist cult that joined ethnicity, religion, and culture.

We can see some similarities today: ancestor worship = identity politics; nature worship = environmentalism

Zeihan's The End of The World is Just The Beginning

Deglobalization combined w/ depopulation changes everything

The idea of global supply chains goes away; the idea of a single price for oil goes away; the idea that we can feed 8 billion people goes away

What makes group chats uniquely good is partly the privacy but mostly the chemistry of the group

There should be a feature where, if everyone opts in, you can seamlessly publish the part of the chat that's appropriate for public consumption
Talkshow founded by the excellent @sippey tried this in 2016, but perhaps now's a better time for it since group chats are more prominent today given how stilted social networks have gotten
