NORTH CAROLINA: Do NOT do what the President directs. To make sure your ballot COUNTS, sign and send it in EARLY. Then track it ONLINE with BALLOTTRAX. Do NOT vote twice (it’s a felony), or waste your time, or unnecessarily risk exposure to more people. northcarolina.ballottrax.net/?fbclid=IwAR2_…
The only GOOD thing about the President’s tweet is that he FINALLY encourages voters to VOTE BY MAIL. It’s an easy, safe & secure way to cast a ballot. To request yours: votebymail.ncsbe.gov/app/home
Important Thread on VOTING in NC:
1. Register to vote before Fri 10/9
2. Request mail-in ballot ASAP
3. Mail in your ballot ASAP & track receipt by text/email
4. or Vote during 17 days of early vote (Th 10/15 – Sat 10/31)
5. or Vote on Election Day (Tu 11/3)
6. DO NOT VOTE TWICE
REGISTRATION: To register to vote or update your registration, click link below. You must be registered by Friday 10/9. If you miss the deadline, you can STILL register & vote at an early voting site. ncsbe.gov/registering/ho…
VOTE BY MAIL: To request your absentee ballot online, click link below. Any eligible voter can vote by mail – no special reason required. By voting by mail, you will shorten lines for those who prefer to vote in person. votebymail.ncsbe.gov/app/home
TRACK YOUR BALLOT: Have a witness when you mark your ballot. BOTH of you must SIGN the envelope. Mail in your ballot ASAP to avoid slow mail delivery (at least 1-2 weeks before 11/3). To get text/email alerts to confirm receipt of your ballot, click here: northcarolina.ballottrax.net/voter/
EARLY VOTE: If you prefer to vote in person during early vote, that’s GREAT. There will be COVID19 protocols to maximize public safety. All counties will have 17 days, including 2 weekends, of early voting. Here's your county’s early voting sites & times: vt.ncsbe.gov/ossite/
ELECTION DAY: If you’re old school & want to vote on Election Day, that’s also great. There will be COVID19 protocols to maximize public safety. To find out where your precinct is, click this link: vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/
FOLLOW THE LAW: NC law PROHIBITS voters from VOTING TWICE. It’s simple – just vote ONCE! Also do NOT take a photo of your marked ballot; you can take a picture of the envelope or the blank ballot, but not once you’ve filled it out.
DEMOCRACY HERO: We need election officials for early voting & on Election Day! Many seniors who normally serve are opting out because of COVID19. Be a HERO for DEMOCRACY, serve as an election official, & GET PAID! Here’s the link: forms.office.com/Pages/Response…
This election is about what kind of state, nation & world we want for ourselves & our children. We are at the most consequential fork in the road of our lifetimes: who are we & who do we want to become. Please vote. It's likely the most important vote you will ever cast. ###

BREAKING: Attorney General Josh Stein Announces $3.1 Billion Settlement with Walmart over Opioid Epidemic Allegations. Too many families have lost loved ones to the opioid epidemic, and too many people have lost years of their lives to addiction. 1/
My fellow attorneys general & I are holding accountable the companies that created and fueled this crisis. As a result of our efforts, working alongside lawyers representing cities and counties, Walmart is committing to pay $3.1 billion and to improve the way it does business. 2/
These meaningful resources will help people suffering from opioid addiction get the treatment & recovery services they need. And the changes to the way pharmacies operate will ensure that this never happens again. 3/

This past week has been rough. The US Supreme Court took away women's reproductive freedom overnight, weakened the EPA’s ability to fight the climate crisis, and opened the door in elections for partisan state legislators to simply override the will of the people. 1/
All of this is on top of the January 6 Committee’s devastating unveiling of the attempted coup.

Yet, even in the face of all these troubles, I have an unusual ask of you: enjoy the Fourth of July holiday weekend with family and friends. 2/
I love July Fourth because I love America. No, we are not perfect. But Americans will never stop working to push our nation to live up to our ideals — equality, self-government, liberty, opportunity. These ideals, & the people who fight for them, inspire me & fill me w/ pride. 3

BREAKING: Fantastic news for voters and the health of our democracy -- the NC Supreme Court just struck down the legislative and congressional maps as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander. The maps violate a voter's fundamental right to vote.
Under our constitution, political power must be “vested in and derived from the people” & our government must be “founded upon their will only." Our elected leaders flout that principle when they seek to perpetuate their power irrespective of the will of the voters.
Our gvt. must be of, by, & for the people, not of, by, & for one political party. That's why the voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around. Partisan gerrymandering is offensive to democracy; it's also contrary to our fundamental constitutional rights.

BREAKING: A group of 15 states has negotiated improvements to Purdue Pharma's bankruptcy plan, which I now support. Thanks to this agreement, thousands of North Carolinians will receive life-saving treatment & recovery services, Purdue as we knew it will come to an end, ...1/
the Sacklers will be barred from ever participating in the pharmaceutical business again, there will be a document depository so the world knows the truth, and the Sacklers are personally paying $4.5 billion, an increase of $1.5 billion over the initial plan I opposed. 2/
Purdue helped to create & fuel the opioid epidemic that is responsible for the death or sickness of millions of Americans. Purdue pushed incredibly addictive & deadly painkillers on the public to make billions of dollars for itself and its owners, as our lawsuit alleges. 3/

BREAKING: Today, I filed a $573 million national settlement with McKinsey, along 52 fellow AGs. I'm proud to have helped to lead these negotiations, and NC’s share is nearly $19 million and must go to abate the opioid crisis. 1/
McKinsey worked for 15 years as a consulting firm to Purdue Pharma & the Sackler Family to increase sales of their highly addictive & often deadly OxyContin. I have sued Purdue & the Sackler family and continue to pursue them & their billions in bankruptcy. 2/
Purdue Pharma didn’t dream up all of its ideas on its own on how to push its pills. It paid the global consulting firm McKinsey handsomely for 15 years to design marketing plans to help it sell more pills, to more patients, at increasing potency, for longer periods of time. 3/

BREAKING: Today, I joined 22 other attorneys general in filing a brief with the United States Supreme Court opposing Texas’ radical, anti-democratic lawsuit. This suit seeks to overturn the will of the people by throwing out the votes of tens of millions Americans. 1/
Court after court has determined that its factual allegations are false. The complaint asks the Supreme Court to simply ignore the voters in several states and order legislators in those states to replace the voters’ choice with their own. 2/
This represents a profound and outrageous rejection of democracy with no precedent in our nation’s history. It would also violate some of our nation’s most basic constitutional principles, including federalism and respect for state law. 3/
