I thought I'd play Wario's Woods for #NESWeekend but I forgot two key factors:
1. this game doesn't have a score counter
2. even though I haven't played in a year or two, I'm apparently still pretty good at it. I'm on level 61 now and I don't know when to stop
obligatory mention of the one fact anyone mentions about this game:
Because the ESRB was formed in 1994, there are no NES games with ESRB ratings... except this one.
The game was the last officially licensed NES game, which is why it was late enough to have an ESRB rating. It was released simultaneously for SNES and NES, with the tech versions being basically identical other than some graphical differences
but yeah, it was an official NES game released so late that by the time it made it to US shelves (December 1994), Nintendo had already announced the N64 (then called the Ultra 64)
By the time it made it's way to the US, the Playstation was already being sold in Japan

There should be a page somewhere that shows updates for nostalgia-based things, you know?
like "If the song 1985 was made today, it would be about 2001"
Bryan Adams: The Summer of '05
like how it's been mentioned before that if you remade Back to the Future today, the "going back to the past" part would be travelling back to 1990.

yeah I wonder what the problem is here, and why it's saying the value is out of range for "H" (aka 16bit unsigned int) Image
I'm testing with another OLED display. This one required new code because it's RGB!
now I can easily push single frames to it from the PC: Image
Naturally I gotta test pushing video to it.
Currently there's a framerate problem, I'm gonna have to optimize that. Getting about 5.7 FPS right now.
(the flickering isn't visible to the human eye, just the camera)

for my own records and anyone who is wondering:
the 312 just died in my timercap.
so that lasted 138 days, in daily use?
312 batteries apparently have a capacity of 145 mAh, so that's an average current drain of about 0.4 mA? that's pretty low.
interestingly because of how the timer thing works, it'll last longer if you use it less.
once you let it go long enough (past 48 hours, I think?) the screen goes blank.
so if it wasn't for pills I was taking daily, the batteries probably would have lasted even longer.
