91 years ago TODAY : Jatindra Nath Das dies with his head in Bhagat Singh’s lap on 13th Sep 1929, after 63 days of hunger strike in Lahore jail.

During his stay at Calcutta in 1928, Bhagat Singh had recruited Jatin Das, to teach HSRA members on how to make explosives.

The death of Jatindranath Das was a major turning point in the Indian Independence movement.

Lakhs of Indians attended his funeral, as his body was taken from Lahore to Calcutta via train. After this, the British stopped handing over bodies of revolutionaries to their kin.

The members of HSRA & Durga Bhabhi were on the funeral train. When the train stopped at Kanpur, Jawaharlal Nehru paid tributes to Das. In Calcutta, Netaji Bose led the miles-long funeral procession.

Even then, the Hindu Mahasabha never paid any tributes to Jatin Das.

"The culture panel committee has not a single member from South India, Northeast India, Minorities, Dalits or Women. All are upper caste Hindu men. Is there no India below the Vindhyas?"

- Madurai MP Su Venkatesan of CPIM. (His Keezhadi speeches are also amazing)
Full translation:

"Mr. Speaker, hello. To research on the form and growth of Indian culture and history, the Culture Minister says a 16 man committee has been formed. This committee lacks diversity, there is no South Indian, North Eastern Indian, minorities, woman or Dalit. 1/4
"It comprises only of upper caste Hindu men. Languages recognised as classical by the central govt. such as Tamil or other South Indian languages don't have a scholars representing them. But the head of a caste organization finds place. Is there no India below the Vindhyas?"

Today is the 166th birth anniversary of Narayana Guru.

This legend alongwith Ayyankali reformed Hindu society, more than anyone else in India. Reformed a Caste infested Kerala.

But he is hardly known outside Kerala & Southern Karnataka bcse he did not belong to the upper caste.

- Narayana Guru on Temples
He even said that schools and libraries should receive priority than temples.

Onam is not a Hindu festival. Onam is not a monolithic festival. It's a Malayali Harvest festival.

Onam belongs to everyone who was born or has links to Kerala. In the eyes of Asura King Maveli (Mahabali), all Keralites are same regardless of caste & religion.

An overwhelming percentage of ‘Onapattukal’ or Onam songs were related to harvest and sung by the subaltern castes.

The 1810–1821 survey of Kerala by Ward and Conner notes that Onam was a time of rest and enjoyment for the otherwise backbroken Dalit & Ezhava communities.

Every caste had it's own way of celebrating it. The only uniting factor was the story of the benevolent Asura king arriving every year.

For the Avarnas, Mahabali & Onam was a symbol of hope in the Land of Caste infected Lunatic Asylum.

The above photo shows Syrian Christian women wearing kuppayam (full sleeve jacket).
