3 big issues for we in local measures 2 wrestle with atm: can we help loved ones meet more easily with family in care homes safely; can we get Gov to use local expertise not private firms to track & trace; & how do we secure #timeouttohelpout to ensure self isolation. Lots to do!
On care homes there’s a clear balance to be struck and I’m famously safety first but isolation of those in care separated from loved ones & impact on their mental health (and worry for their families) means this is a growing issue given second spike/no clear pathway out of this
On track and trace we need real time data, and an end to the testing chaos, but local public sector knowledge must be the way forward given the failure of centralised, privatised, national response - we have to find more contacts, and find them faster
So to final issue: we must find a way to ensure those contacted by tracers can afford to take #timeouttohelpout - Gov should have funded this months ago: even if they’d delivered a world beating test & trace system it’s totally undermined if people can’t then afford to isolate
All these issues require 2 things from Gov that have been lacking. An understanding & respect 4 a localised approach as opposed to centralised chaos & the funding 2 let us get on with it. With cases still rising in most areas w/local measures this our best chance of a way forward
