I am happy to hear that you believe the points I made about the legal system and policing are valid. But the ad hominem attack doesn't really advance the important discussion. You are certainly entitled to your opinion about Mr. Peterson's personality and guilt.

But having far more information about relevant facts, I respectfully disagree. I never believed Mike was guilty, and still don't. But that's really besides the point. What's important about @The_Staircase is that it showed how fake science infects the system.

As for your other points, we can disagree about whether it is "morally bankrupt" for a lawyer to defend someone charged with a crime. I suspect you will feel differently if you ever have the unfortunate experience of having a loved one charged, whether she is guilty or not.

As for finances, during a trial, defense attorneys work at least 12 hours a day - part in court and part before and after court. If you add up just the time spent during a 5 month trial, Tom and I collectively spent in excess of 3000 hours working on the case during the trial.

When you add in the pretrial time spent over 18 months reviewing thousands of pages of discovery, consulting with experts, doing investigation in Germany, etc., it's at least another 2000 hours collectively, if not more. And, during the trial, you can't take on new clients.

And, we were not paid hourly, we set a (far too low) fixed fee at the beginning of the case, not realizing what it would morph into. I point all this out not to rebut your claim that we made a fortune, which we didn't.

But rather to make everyone aware that criminal defense lawyers don't do what we do for money. We could make far more, with far less stress, on personal injury cases. Generally, we do it because we care about the abuses we see in the criminal justice system,

and to make sure the system works fairly for everyone. I sincerely hope this gives you a little more insight into what we do and why we do it. I apologize for the length of this post, but thought these points were worth making.
