Wandering through Twitter it’s sometimes easy to lose hope. You see the effects of the lies and brinkmanship of elected officials overreach, of violence and hatred of peaceful protests being forcefully destroyed, of sexism, racism, ageism, anti-Semitism, nationalism and a 1001
ways to hate another living breathing human. It’s easy to give up and drown in the violence and hatred of these days. But we can’t. Not even for an instance. We have to fight and make that dream of a peaceful and co-operative world true, one interaction at a time.
Some days you have the energy to take on the world and you can protest, write to your elected representative, vote, volunteer and do physical acts to make life better for everyone. Other days it’s all you can do to get out of bed and feed yourself.
Don’t beat yourself up for these days. We are only human, flawed and sometimes fragile and sometimes getting through that day is the best you can achieve. Do what you can when you can to help others and always remember to keep yourself strong and to never lose hope.
Look for the kindness in others and see it in yourself. If you can help, do so: volunteering, donating, supporting and if you can’t because you are in a bad place (we have all been there) don’t beat yourself up.
Try the small acts of kindness you can, smile at the cashier and thank them next time you talk to one. If you have ever done that job you know that one person being kind can help on a bad day. Do something that reminds you of what we fight for and how we are all in this together.
If you are in absolute despair and want to end it all reach out to someone. There are people there to hear you and will remind you that you are a person that deserves to live and that you are not broken.
Above all don’t lose your hope, even in the darkest, coldest of nights there is always the hope for the dawn and spring. Be well and be safe.
