If a Graha (ग्रह) is considered as person, their “Exaltation“ (Uchha) can be compared with elated & joyous state of his/her mind.
Ancient Rishis, scholars have noted certain Rashis for exaltation & debilitation, of various Grahas. 1/
These Rashis of exaltation r akin to the “places” wherein a particular Graha loves to be in!
Similarly consider opposite for the debilitating places.
Likewise, Rashis assigned for own & Mool-Trikon.
Focus of this thread is only on Exaltation (Debilitation is understood along)
Various rationale (तर्क) r given for “why” of it that includes Tatwa in sync with nature of a Graha, Nakshatra & such. While it has merit & certainly contributes in formulating the concept, it doesn’t seem the primary one. Something convincing is needed covering all Grahas. 3/

It would be of great help if one understands the root.
Graha in Exaltation (Uchha) Rashi is akin to a person elated, extremely happy being in one’s fav place.
OTC, in Neecha rashi is akin to Dukhi/depress being in a place which one strongly dislikes/hates.
Like a person in his fav picnic spot (Uchha). In a slum (Neecha).
A woman in a shopping mall having bag full of money (Uchha).
Then there are other aspects which could be pondered upon. Such as...
~Rahu likes action, initiatives so Mithun (3rd Bhav of Kaal purusha) is his fav place (Uchha). He hates Dharma and orders as he always walks reverse path. Thus he hates Dhanu. He is dukhi there.
