Under the shadow of Taj Mahal, an entire village is on the brink of starvation. Parle G biscuits with water, chapatis with red chilli paste, dal worth Rs 2 or Rs 5 with PDS rice for a family of 7 and sometimes a cup of milk for tea for the whole family. thehindu.com/news/national/…
Lockdown has deprived most in this village of shoemakers of their source of income. Those with ration cards survive only on chapatis and rice, and those without are worse off. Many go hungry for several days. Illnesses abound, fatigue writ large on every face Image
Many get only a fraction of PDS entitlement as pilferage is common. Anganwadis exist, but panjiri packets vanish before they reach beneficiaries. Recording growth of children is out of the question. ImageImageImageImage
Most suffer from illnesses without knowing the nature of ailment as they can't afford medical expenses. 135 Ayushman Bharat cards in a Gram Panchayat of 12,000 people. Swachch Bharat is a fantasy here - barely any house has a toilet. ImageImageImageImage

"Help us, we will not fly", passengers appealed inside Air India's Delhi- SFO flight on Thursday as it was too hot inside the passenger cabin. In the video you can see passengers fanning themselves as well as requesting for cold towels 1/n
Nearly 15 of them walked to the front-end of the aircraft and requested to speak to the Captain after spending nearly 2 hours. But this would turn into a 24-hour saga where passengers were shuttled between their hotels and airport thrice.
The 3.30pm flight was already delayed by over four hours as the airline didn't have a plane for the flight, say airport sources. An old Boeing 777 (VT ALG) aircraft was brought from the remote parking bay and could be baking hot at the time passengers emplaned.

#AirIndia #pilots unhappy over salary revision. The airline has offered a guaranteed flying allowance equivalent of 40 hours, which used to be 70 hours pre pandemic and was brought down to 20 hours.
Multiple pilots said this in a nut shell: "The DGCA allows a minimum flying of 1,000 hours, which if you calculate leaves and training gives you approximately 72 to 73 hours per month. This has also long been a healthy number of flying hours after which a pilot can take ...(cont)
"a respectable salary home. But, if the airline under-utilises us, and gives us flying only for 40 hours we take home much less than pilots of other airlines and what we were already taking home pre-pandemic. There is also rising inflation to account." (crux of what many said)

Here is what I learnt from a mere 7-hour long visit to Meerut and meeting the very first family: deaths have happened due to bullet injuries. injured were taken to hospitals, which had instructions not to attend to bullet hit patients. 1/n
Mohsin died after a hospital turned him away. Asif 2as taken to as many as 4 hospitals, all refused to attend on him citing "orders to not operate bullet injuries".Families wr forced 2 bury bodies early morn the following day aftr post mortem proved cause of death was gunfire 2/n
Families can't file an FIR and seek posts mortem report from the police as their deceased family members have been booked for rioting, attempt to murder, etc. When they approach police they r threatened with arrest on the grounds that they were involved too 3/n
