The world seems to be in a massive competition right now to see who knows everything. I was told yesterday by some guy, whose opinions differed from mine, that I should shut up because he had a PhD and that meant he was right about everything.

No one wants to be a student.
But when you know everything you can't learn anything. The world of curiosity - and wonder and joy and a lot of other good things - is closed to you. You live in a bubble of your own making.

The spiritual writers talk a lot about humility as the first precondition for the...
approach to holiness. And they also say a lot that because the Great Thing you are trying to approach is an infinite distance away (so to speak) your only honest position must be that of a perpetual student. Indeed, a perpetual beginner. It's why St. Philip Neri's...
expression "When shall we begin to do good?" was directed - quite honestly - at himself more than his listeners.

Honestly, the world of politics and polemics is a very small one, though it seems to be the only thing anyone is interested in. It is like being locked in a ...
windowless room with no furnishings and only one picture. It doesn't take very much perspicacity to figure out its parameters and quickly exhaust its mysteries.

I think this - boredom - more than any other factor is what has made me want to turn away from it...
There is nothing new there to discover. The only thing to do in the Boring Little Room is fight over who gets to own the picture. And the picture isn't even that good.

There are other much better more interesting things to look at.

Much, much larger and more important things. Image
That's why I started the Sacred Art site. I want to be a student again. I want to know things that seem to be Great and Wonderful and Mysterious - things I don't already know forwards and backwards.

The one thing our polemical Boring Little Room doesn't allow is *curiosity*.
If you click "follow" (top right of the page) you can join me, and maybe we can discover something interesting...

(A door out of the Boring Little Room would be good, I think.)

Things to understand about Dolan's book:

It's known everywhere that Dolan - no lion of doctrine - can't stand Jorge Bergoglio personally & is the sworn enemy of the McCarrick clique that is still largely in charge of the American Catholic establishment.
It isn't about getting elected himself, which I'm sure he doesn't want. It's about rallying the anti-Bergoglian faction in the college. We might call it an "Anyone-but-Francis II" campaign.

We have to remember he was the one who released the archive data that (finally!!)...
toppled Uncle Teddy (far, far, far too late to do any good, of course - and why he sat on it for so long is anyone's guess). I think he was hoping it would bring down the entire cabal - Cupich, Wuerl, Tobin etc. And it certainly could have worked had Bergoglio not been pope...

Let him who has ears, hear.

Da Primam:

Quare fremuerunt gentes,
et populi meditati sunt inania ?

Astiterunt reges terrae, et principes convenerunt in unum
adversus Dominum, et adversus christum ejus.

Dirumpamus vincula eorum,

Dominus dixit ad me : Filius meus es tu
ego hodie genui te.

Postula a me, et dabo tibi gentes haereditatem tuam,
et possessionem tuam terminos terræ.

Reges eos in virga ferrea,
et tamquam vas figuli confringes eos.

@ChrisStefanick It continues to be astonishing to me that people believe there can be a radical separation - even opposition - between belief and practice and that this presents no problems whatever. God has a right to be worshipped according to His own desires.
@ChrisStefanick Liturgical practice isn't some kind of stage show, concocted for entertainment. It is theology rendered into action and word. The idea that the "TLM" is just a matter of personal preference fails to grasp the fundamentals of what liturgy is and is for. The "TLM" IS Catholicism.
@ChrisStefanick If we advocate for the return of the "TLM" we are in reality asking the Church to return to the fulness of the Catholic Faith in both teaching and practice. Perhaps the novus ordo contains elements of that Faith; but it is not adequate, it is thin gruel compared to good red meat.

Nope, no dots to connect under here.

In 2014, Pell was given by Pope Francis responsibility for cleaning up the infamously corrupt Vatican Bank. When that news broke, I thought, “They’ll find some way to take him out. They won’t let him do it.”

theamericanconservative.com/dreher/cardina…
"When the child abuse charges... were brought against Pell in 2017, I thought, 'So that’s how they did it.' ..."

"The man across the table said, “That’s interesting. You may not know it, but the ‘Ndrangheta is quite well established in Australia, especially in Victoria..."
Dreher links to this about the infiltration of the Calabrian mafia into Australia.
