I don't like generational snobbery. (Teasing and talking sh*t isn't snobbery.) I would have chosen a different career if I didn't enjoy young people.

But Black US music is an intergenerational conversation that's gotten snatched & co-opted over the past 2 decades. It's annoying.
Some only go back to my generation's music. But more than half of what they did was paying homage to the sounds that came before, *and we hear both when we listen.*

And they were talking to their elders.

And they were talking to theirs.

And theirs were in the fields.

No one would have fixed their face and said "Black people don't have a culture" in the 1980s or even the 1990s.

We have a responsibility to pass down our traditions, our stories... *and our sound.*
I'm an old soul. Always have been. My folks who raised me were Boomers, but my bio dad, whose family I've gotten to know, was Greatest Generation, born in '21.

My century-old DNA implores y'all not to forget. (As Auntie Gladys reminded us, "between each line of pain and glory.")
The world benefits whenever we forget who we are. They won't help us remember, and they will NOT pass down these stories and traditions and songs.

In fact, in another 25 or 50 years, they will pretend as if this was "American culture."

Pass it on. (Now, THAT's Auntie Patti!)
