In 762 AD, the Abbasids moved the capital from Damascus to Baghdad, after the defeat of the Umayads.

The Grand Library of Baghdad, Bayt al Hikma (House of Wisdom) was soon established, and within 100 years, this library became the intellectual center of the known world.
In 1258, the Mongol Army arrived at Baghdad.

The waters of the Tigris ran black for weeks with ink from the enormous quantities of books flung into the river. Both the Library and City was destroyed. The destruction of Baghdad marked the end of the Islamic Golden Age.
The Abbasid revolution and the Abbasid Caliphate is very underrated in history.

Famous mathematician at the House of Wisdom was al-Khawarizmi, known as the father of algebra - a word derived from the title of his book, Kitab al Jabr.

There was a historic 36-day hunger strike by 187 political prisoners of Andaman Cellular Jail on July 1937, which has been nearly erased from Indian history.

The hunger strike was led by friends of Bhagat Singh, which included Shiv Verma, Jaideo Kapoor & Bejoy Kumar Sinha.

Do we remember Shiv Verma, Jaideo Kapoor & Bejoy Kumar Sinha?

In 1948, Shiv Verma was elected secretary of the Uttar Pradesh state committee of the then undivided Communist Party of India (CPI).
Forgot to Add.

The biggest resistance within the Cellular jail came from a group called Communist Consolidation which was created on May 1935 by 40 inmates. The membership of Communist Consolidation in Cellular jail grew rapidly to over 600-700 inmates by Feb 1936.

The man who shook the British crown was born 113 years ago today.

His slogan 'Inquilab Zindabad' is an anti-national word today. Bhagat Singh once beautifully explained the real meaning of Inquilab Zindabad to a journalist.

A #Thread on his quotes about Casteism & Religion.
Bhagat Singh explains the meaning he tried to convey by the phrase 'Inquilab Zindabad' to the editor of the Modern Review.

- The Tribune (December 24, 1929)

Below are the quotes from 'Why I am an Atheist'
"You, the Hindus, Let me say it plainly that your ancestors were shrewd people. They were always in search of petty hoaxes to play upon people and snatch from them the power of Reason."

- Bhagat Singh (Why I am an Atheist)

Bhagat Singh was very vocal against Brahmanism.

Most 'Money Heist fans in India dont know this.

The 'Bella Ciao song was the anthem of the Italian communist partisans during World War 2. Versions of 'Bella Ciao' was sung across Europe as an anti-fascist hymn of resistance in the 1940's.

Bella Ciao means the Beautiful Goodbye
The Song from Money Heist.

Loved the beautiful use of Red and Red Army Choir's feel. Catalunya.

Such a damn good song.

Mussolini would have trembled when he heard this music in 1945.

"The culture panel committee has not a single member from South India, Northeast India, Minorities, Dalits or Women. All are upper caste Hindu men. Is there no India below the Vindhyas?"

- Madurai MP Su Venkatesan of CPIM. (His Keezhadi speeches are also amazing)
Full translation:

"Mr. Speaker, hello. To research on the form and growth of Indian culture and history, the Culture Minister says a 16 man committee has been formed. This committee lacks diversity, there is no South Indian, North Eastern Indian, minorities, woman or Dalit. 1/4
"It comprises only of upper caste Hindu men. Languages recognised as classical by the central govt. such as Tamil or other South Indian languages don't have a scholars representing them. But the head of a caste organization finds place. Is there no India below the Vindhyas?"

91 years ago TODAY : Jatindra Nath Das dies with his head in Bhagat Singh’s lap on 13th Sep 1929, after 63 days of hunger strike in Lahore jail.

During his stay at Calcutta in 1928, Bhagat Singh had recruited Jatin Das, to teach HSRA members on how to make explosives.

The death of Jatindranath Das was a major turning point in the Indian Independence movement.

Lakhs of Indians attended his funeral, as his body was taken from Lahore to Calcutta via train. After this, the British stopped handing over bodies of revolutionaries to their kin.

The members of HSRA & Durga Bhabhi were on the funeral train. When the train stopped at Kanpur, Jawaharlal Nehru paid tributes to Das. In Calcutta, Netaji Bose led the miles-long funeral procession.

Even then, the Hindu Mahasabha never paid any tributes to Jatin Das.

- Narayana Guru on Temples
He even said that schools and libraries should receive priority than temples.…
