A lot of people are (rightly) tweeting on this nominating JK Rowling. However, that's not enough - you have to fill out the form on the website to properly nominate someone. Here are my answers to the questions you can use if you wish; please RT and/or suggest improvements! [1/?]

(please give an overview of the challenges to free expression in the nominee's area of work.)

I would hope the reader would already be familiar with JK Rowling and her work. However, after publishing an essay detailing her history of domestic violence and how she believes
current trans activism, mainly on social media, will impact the safety of abuse survivors, she was victim to a torrent of the vilest abuse. Many social media commentators are calling for her books to be burned and more recently, the hashtag "#RIPJKRowling" has been trending on
Twitter as campaigners seem to delight in pretending she has died.

All this for writing a compassionately written article on women's rights.
There is a clear campaign against women who speak up about their rights & boundaries happening, especially on Twitter, and she has dared to speak against it.
(List three ways in which the nominee's work improves freedom of expression.)

- She has raised the awareness of the impact of trans rights on women's rights & boundaries
- She has raised awareness of the impact of puberty blockers on so-called "trans children" and the activists who wish to make these harmful drugs widely available
- She has raised awareness of the plight of "detransitioners" - people who identified as trans for a period of their lives but have transitioned back. These people are dismissed amongst trans activist circles as "not really trans" and their stories do not gain much traction.
- She has been subjected to the most vile campaigns by internet activists and has risen above it all and stuck to her principles - Including returning her "Ripple of Hope" gong after receiving criticism from Kerry Kennedy.
(Please list any obstacles faced by the nominee in carrying out their work)

As mentioned, she has been subjected to multiple vicious internet hate campaigns. As an already wealthy woman she has not had the same problems many other people have who have spoken out on this subject;
but I imagine the thousands of abusive messages she receives every day must take a toll on her health.

She has also been accused of being "a danger to children" by multiple social media commentators in spite of zero evidence of this;
purely for her comments on the trans rights compaigners. These posts have received tens of thousands of "likes" on Twitter and Facebook
(Why do you think the nominee deserves this award)

She could have stayed silent; she didn't have to wade into this debate, and saved herself the grief. But she didn't. She knew when she published her "Terf Wars" essay it would provoke a massive reaction; and she wasn't wrong.
But as Millicent Fawcett said, "Courage calls to courage everywhere", and her involvement has inspired thousands of others to join in and find their voices.

The people who seek to silence JKR seek to control all speech.
JKR has taken the move of speaking against them, and that is extraordinarily brave in the current climate.
(How will this fellowship benefit the nominee?)

I'd like to think that in spite of all the abuse she has received over the past year, this would be a way of letting her know she is appreciated by those who value courage & freedom of expression
