The addition of hardware, first with the iPhone Upgrade Program, is inevitable
Apple and it's users (individual and collective) and its developers benefit from more frequent device refreshes. Legacy iPads and iPhone with cracked screens help no one

This means making it easier to update, financially and mentally.
Apple services are similar. iOS is much better with iCloud, but most won't pay for it. Bundles get us to.

Music has structural margin issues for Apple, and is harder to differentiate. As core to bundle, it drives extra value to Apple and will be ~free to many (v $10 for SPOT)
Many of Apple's other services, like TV+, have fixed costs. So giving it away for free means $0 added cost, but >$0 value to the consumer. That scales.

In addition, it gets users to use Apple Video, which has great margins but Apple is way behind and bleeding share to Amazon
Finally, churn is the killer of all subscription businesses, as telcos learned years ago

Which is why they give discounts to add homephones you don't want. More products, even with negligible use, means more lock in AND less friction to adding n+1 service (e.g. Home security)

Fortnite is launching a concert series it hopes will become a ‘tour stop’ for artists theverge.com/2020/9/8/21423… via @verge
Epic has built a bespoke studio for the series, which will leverage everything built and tested for Mandalorian, which of course was built and tested through Epics' gaming initiatives, which led to Fortnite, etc Image

True story: Tim Hortons is named after Tim Horton

There is no apostrophe because the corporate entity was tired of printing signage and materials that said Tim Hortons and Tim Horton's, or Quebec-only editions.

So they renamed the company into a non-grammatical letter string
Also true: you think there are lots of Starbucks?

There's 1 US Starbucks per 22,000 Americans

There's 1 Canadian Timmies per 7,800 Canadians (all 7,800 of us!)

(Also 1 US Subway per 12,400 Americans)

IIRC, Timmies is highest QSR per capita. We love it (It bad, #SorryNotSorry)

Weirdest part of Interstellar, honestly.

"I'm an engineer"

"The world doesn't need more engineers. We didn't run out of planes and television sets. We ran out of food. The world needs farmers."
To clarify, there is no army, barely government. Yet there is a national college system, entry process, and PhD program

Also local principal, who also administers a generalized curricula, says at 18 you should just pivot to being a farmer, no benefit to tech learning even there
The character and his point both have a role (post-science, defeatest America). However, it's context makes little sense.

What curriculum is taught and why, why is he opposed to it, where do students go, what is the college system and who affords it, why pivot students at 18 etc

The Henry Ford Company was renamed Cadillac shortly after Ford left to start Ford Motor Company

Howard Hughes' aircraft division was bought by General Motors, which then launched DirecTV

Coca Cola saved Columbia, then sold it to Sony, which helped get PlayStation greenlit
Disney has Marvel because it was bought by a licorice extract and chocolate manufacturer, that became a holding company and bought Marvel to turn it into Disney, but failed utterly

Blockbuster was a key part of Enron's fraud, which then harmed Blockbuster's OTT efforts
Woolworth was the world's biggest retailer, then built the world's tallest office tower. Sears then replaced the former, then latter. Only Woolworth's shoe department still exists (Shoe Locker)

When Wal-Mart passed Sears, it kept its 1-3 story HQ, kept using returned furniture

Incidentally, I still find it hilarious how many people are shocked to find out I actually do play video games.

I mean, I do... a lot.

But I really don't think you can be a spectator analyst or investor in this space
