Going to do a thread from @KamalaHarris first trip back to her home state of California since the pandemic ramped up in March, with a laser focus on Wildfire damage in Sierra Nevada foothills
At the Pine Ridge School in Auberry, @KamalaHarris down the line elbow bumping and stopping to make small chit chat with Cal Fire and Park officer.

Wearing a green anorak jacket and chestnut Timberland boots.
The entire event, ash continued to fall down from the sky
.@KamalaHarris greeting her old lady friend @GavinNewsom
During a briefing on the Creek Fire, @KamalaHarris asked lotsa questions

In a moment of levity, she agreed with a fire official that firefighters never brag. @GavinNewsom said comically he wouldn’t quite say never. Harris then joked “well I’m not in charge of their budget”
But a majority of the questions reflected the moment, about sustained damage, population sized impacted, what different symbols means and how the firefighters were doings with the long hours
Talking to the press @KamalaHarris gave somber remarks infront of a playground covered in ash, saying yet again California has been hit.

“You’ll see where the fire has just swept through. Everything is gone except the chimney,” she said. “Those chimneys remind me of tombstones.
I asked @KamalaHarris what is the established plan if she or @JoeBiden contacts Covid-19 between now and the election, as they have ramped up their physical campaigning and get tested regularly

“The plan is not to get it... PERIOD” she said, laughing
And H/T to the great @joshjame who came up with that question over dinner this weekend and let me “borrow it.” 😘
Also y’all I have asthma, that mountain was SO high and it was so so so so smoky— so picture me like this after I asked that question

(I did not have my bonnet on at the time but feels sponge bob with the bonnet best portrays my personality)
.@KamalaHarris and @GavinNewsom toured a house destroyed by the wildfires along with a charred car. the house is just that chimney and wood behind the car.

Walking over to it, a man who appeared to be a local reporter, heckled them and accused them of doing a photo opp
Next stop was an evacuation center inside a local school gym in Fresno. Harris thanked the volunteers and told them said, “I know you’re helping people you’ve never met before, who you’ll never meet again and may never know your name.”
And in a surprise stop, Harris brought lunch to the Fresno Fire Dept and posed for photos
Multiple sighting of Trump supporters today at her events or alongside the road on the way there. Quite a few Harris supporters as wel
And before she departed, @KamalaHarris took photos with California Highway Patrol officers
😂😂 not old lady friend! Just old friend*

I also spotted @kamalaharris walking into the capitol today (first time i've seen her since she left the 2020 race!)

Harris let me onto the elevator with on her way to the senate luncheon and said she was “disappointed,” in yesterday.
.@KamalaHarris mentioned Amnd 11 failing to pass, that would allow Justice Roberts to decide who is relevant.

“How could that have been voted down? It is the most reasonable request,” she said.

"The stakes are about the integrity of our democracy and our system of justice."
On all the amendments going down on party lines, @kamalaharris said “it does not portend well for the upcoming trial.”

“I do question whether there will be witnesses and that would be a travesty of justice.”

Sen Kirsten Gillibrand made her first trip to South Carolina this weekend, since announcing her 2020 exploratory committee for president last month.

She spoke at a Women’s brunch hosted by @ClyburnSC06’s daughter and said she’s confident she could beat President Trump.
“You have to build a stronger picture for America that’s as disruptive as Trump’s, about taking on the money interests, the corrupt greed and the institutional racism... and show that you aren’t afraid of fights. And that’s who I am. I have never backed down from a fight.”
She made another stop at Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles for a small business roundtable with about 20 black leaders.

Here she is sitting next to the one and only Kiki. Expect every 2020 dem hopeful to dine here at some point in the primary.
