It’s like they’re begging for grifters to say, “OHHHH THEY’RE CANCELLING BEETHOVEN NOWWW,” when the actual convo is the general lack of diversity in the classical canon.
The article could have educated readers on composers who don’t fit the while male demo, but didn’t.

It also could have really explored how we got here. Instead it mulls over a legitimate sense of exclusion, but the reader’s left with no idea of how to change the paradigm.
The points made by those quoted are fine, but the piece makes little effort to truly contextualize or back up their observations.

We really expect random readers to comprehend the full scope of racial hegemony in classical music off a few quotes from people connected to it?
Maybe the podcast this piece is promoting is more in-depth, but the writing is so unfocused there’s no chance anyone will listen in good faith; because it’s putting the weight of a larger cultural problem on the shoulders of a beloved piece of music.
