Re: that Oregon senator whose house burned. Hurricane Katrina destroyed Trent Lotts in Mississippi and the Republican answer was - we will build a new house!

No series of events can change them. Only beating them in every election from school board and city council to POTUS.
Most of America wants gun control. But neither the murder of first graders nor the murder of country music fans changed anything.
Republicans have family members die from lack of health care and continue not to support universal health care.
Republican officials have family members come out as queer and continue to support anti-queer legislation.
I only say this because I think there's a reasonable hope that terrible events will persuade republicans to act differently.

It will never happen.

So a lot of folks in both my mentions and Chris' have responded by asserting how unfixable things are. It is true that I cannot time travel. I cannot raise the dead, unburn California, or erase the trauma of caged children.

But we can save the next child. /1
2) I've been summarizing my solutions as: Elect Biden. Flip the Senate. Fix what's Broken.
3) Worried about lifetime appointed judges? Expand the courts. This is an easy fix. It is fully legal and has lots of precedent in US History. The GOP will throw tantrums and pundits will play "both sides," so teach Democrats to ignore that. Just fix it.

Everything that is bad right now is fixable.
It’s terrible. But the fixes exist. We know what they are.
I’m a historian. I study moments in which the problems were vast and people really didn’t have the solutions. That may still happen for us. But it’s not where we are right now.

As a freelancer, four times a year I pay thousands of dollars in quarterly taxes to avoid being penalized by the IRS. My self-employed income is taxed at a higher rate and the Republican party keeps passing laws that minimizes my deduction opportunities. #TrumpTaxReturns
I don’t really mind it. I feel lucky that I can make a little money on the side as a writer. More importantly, we live in a society and I like some of the things that taxes buy. Roads and schools, state and national parks, all kinds of stuff.
But it’s brutal. Paychecks come in and I have to put them aside and count only a fraction of the money is mine so that I can pay my taxes responsibly.
