⭐️⭐️📚”BUBBLE BUDDIES”: A Solution📚⭐️⭐️

“We can’t let perfect be the enemy of good.”

🧠With no distancing requirements for JK to grade 12, “definite” exposure to TWO classmates is better than “highly probable” exposure to 8+ students. Setup students in groups of THREE. ...1/4
In a class of 24, EACH GROUP MEMBER is 1 metre away from the OTHER two... But the ENTIRE GROUP is 2+ metres away from ALL other groups. If put into rows, “middle” kids will be 1.2 to 1.6 m away from 8 kids, and will have direct/indirect exposure to ALL 24 classmates. ...2/4
Aside from safety benefits, this will aide in contract tracing. In a grade three class of 24 students, if 1 child tests positive, there will only be TWO other contacts. If students are NOT put into “bubble buddies of 3”, no masking/distancing means 23 contacts. ...3/4

🏋🏼One of the most common questions I’m asked is, “Would you go to high-risk place like a gym?”💪

🧠I’ll walk you through my risk assessment.🧠

🩺FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m 40, no health complications, resting heart rate in the low 50’s, but a wife and son with asthma.

...1/10
For starters, my gym is around 45,000 square feet and is limited to a 50 person capacity. That’s 83 square metres per person. 2 metres of social distancing requires 6.65 square meters. No worries here. ✅

...2/10
Now that I know the space is sufficient, I consulted my gym to check their policy (see attached). My favourite part of the policy was that I had to social distance from my son - because it sends a message to others to do the same. ✅

🧠AS A BOTH A TEACHER AND A COVID-19 BIOSTATISTICIAN, I GET THIS A LOT:

🙋What are your thoughts on returning to school in September?

At the risk of upsetting some, or maybe many, here’s my answer. Fully guided by the mantra:

⭐️NO ONE WINS, but NO ONE DIES⭐️

...1/16 ⤵️⤵️
💰For starters, schools CAN’T open safely without additional funding.💰 And this additional funding must be used to “support” PPE for ALL staff and students who are in the building.

Up to grade 5, it’s face shields; in grade 6 and above, it’s non-medical face coverings.

...2/16
Transportation is capped at 15 students per bus. If churches can’t have services with more than 30% capacity, why can busses have more students than this? This may require staggered start times. So be it. Social distancing is here to stay. Oh - and kids MUST be masked.
