I filed FOIAs for body and dash cam / audio footage with every agency involved in the police killing of the Portland shooter. They all say they have nothing, or rejected my request. Four agencies involved, no cameras, at least so they say

vice.com/en_us/article/…
This is notable for the obvious reason that witnesses have described the killing as a police execution, and Trump has called it "retribution." So did we have a state-sponsored revenge killing w/o due process or what? video + audio would help ... would you believe that ...
Agencies involved in the killing have actively fought against body cameras citing the potential issue that body cam footage would be subject to FOIA and would "look bad" and be "thrown up on CNN" if obtainable by public. These quotes are not ancient, they are from June and August

I filed FOIAs about the Chinese Mystery Seeds with state departments of agriculture in all 50 states. I received thousands of emails, spreadsheets, complaint forms, presentations, voicemails. The takeaway is that MANY Americans planted the seeds

vice.com/en_us/article/…
not to be TOO bleak here, but what I saw was eye-opening. Hundreds of people unable to follow instructions, thousands who didn't understand whether they had actually ordered something or not. People called 911, took them to the police, "salted the earth," widespread chaos
Many states were able to identify the seeds. Most were harmless (as has been already reported). Some were weeds that are illegal to plant in most states. Here's one wild voicemail I listened to:

yesterday an Amazon job listing for a private investigator to spy on union organizers was "an error." Then we found that Amazon already has a secret, sophisticated program and team dedicated to spying on its workers Facebook posts:

vice.com/en_us/article/…
According to our reporting, Amazon took great pains to keep this program secret: “It will have a detrimental effect if it falls within the reach of any of our Delivery partners. DO NOT SHARE without proper authentication”
A LOT going on here:

- the tool and its reports and files were left exposed on a domain called that was not obviously owned by Amazon & doesn't use Amazon infrastructure. Despite this, there are clear and direct ties back to Amazon w/in the files

SCOOP: Amazon is spying on its workers in closed Facebook groups using a tool that categorizes every post their make and analyzes their sentiment, according to internal reports we have viewed

vice.com/en_us/article/…

simply a blockbuster by @LaurenKGurley and @josephfcox
Amazon left this tool and its reports online. They are looking, in part, for delivery drivers "planning for any strike or protest against Amazon" or "Warehouse employees complaining about poor working conditions."
It is monitoring dozens of closed driver groups in the United States, UK, Spain, according to the reports, which are delivered to Amazon corporate regularly

BREAKING: Leaked emails show that USPS headquarters has ordered local post offices to NOT plug back in mail sorting machines

vice.com/en_us/article/…
email is in direct contradiction with what Postmaster DeJoy said two days ago. this email or an email like it (we saw two versions) seemingly went to every maintenance head around the country

we have new details about today's Twitter hack. Spoke to one of the people involved in hack, they say a Twitter employee gave access. Sent screenshot of tool being used to hijack @binance

vice.com/en_us/article/…
Twitter just locked my account and made me delete a tweet about how this hack worked
Earlier, Twitter told us that it was only locking accounts that posted private personal information. The screenshot I tweeted has no personal information in it and was censored, it just shows how an internal Twitter tool

Detroit police have been one of the most public supporters of facial recognition software. Last week, the NYTimes and ACLU told the story of Robert Julian-Borchak Williams, a man falsely arrested using facial recognition tech.
Today, Detroit's police chief revealed that the software it uses doesn't identify the correct suspect a shocking 96% of the time.

vice.com/en_us/article/…
It's crucial to understand who this is used against. Detroit has regulated facial recognition use, meaning the DPD has to put out a weekly report about its use. This year, it has been used EXCLUSIVELY against Black people
