several people have asked me, so, OK: yeah, i'll stream myself "reacting" to the playstation 5 event later today. whenever that is, just check out twitch dot tv slash actionbutton !!!
@necrosofty you're invited btw in case you didn't see my text . . . !
i'll try to go live maybe 30 minutes before the event for a "predictions" section. uhh. i got some guys coming to reglaze my bathtub (literally) in a couple minutes, so i hope they're done before that, else i reveal my Full IdiotBaby Self around a buncha professional man's men
in all seriousness, i only want one thing from the playstation 5 event: i want ridge racer. where is ridge racer? we have gone a whole 1.9 console generations without a ridge racer. namco: forza horizon is eating your lunch. give the people a launch-day Ridge Racer.
ridge racer *is* the sony playstation as much as any other game can claim to be. they were there Day One of PlayStation One. they showed the people shockingly fast virtuoso graphics. put next to daytona on saturn (which i LOVE btw) it was no contest. the performance was palpable
at the time the playstation emerged, namco had spent over a decade drilling down on racing games--as an arcade machine manufacturer, they needed fast, loud graphics, and racing games show that off harder than any other genre. ridge racer was their ELEVENTH arcade racing game!
when the playstation came out, namco had RIDGE RACER available Day One. they refined it over the course of the playstation 1 generation. every new ridge racer was a huge technical milestone! revolution added more tracks, rage racer added an upgrade system, R4 "finished" the game
ridge racer 5 launched with the playstation 2. i loved it. i considered it a Good Sequel to the hugeness of R4, though i rarely hear anyone speak of it at all, much less speak of it fondly. namco put out some ridge racers on PSP, though no other PS2 ridge racer ever appeared.
almost six YEARS after Ridge Racer 5, we had Ridge Racer 6--on Xbox 360, day one. playstation's prized cheerleader had defected! then, in a Shocking Twist, namco incremented the seldom-touched numeral AGAIN a mere *eleven months* later: Ridge Racer 7 for the PlayStation 3 launch
since then . . . nothing. maybe there's been something on mobile phones, or some browser game, or some weird arcade thing to set up next to skee-ball or pac-man battle royale at some Family Fun Centers. if there's been a ridge racer since, i ain't seen it!
so here's what i want: i want namco to announce Ridge Racer 8 for the sony playstation 5. . . . then i want them to release the same game for the xbox series x, and call it Ridge Racer 9.
well, that's what i want. bye for now
basically, give us a Ridge Racer 8 that runs at 4K60 with bonkers ray-tracing and no load times on the PlayStation 5, the way Ridge Racer 7 on PlayStation 3 ran at 1080p60 *day one*. no other PS3 game dared for YEARS
then make Ridge Racer 9 on Xbox Series X 4K120 lol
ok NOW bye
actually wait here is a better joke: they should call the xbox version "Ridge Racer 10"

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
i am currently writing a patreon post about this that is much longer and makes much less sense, so if you want to see that you can pay for it lmao
as i said in the fine print abovr, i don't understand how youtube processing works. this is a huge 4K60fps video. i have no idea what is taking so long. i haven't slept in four days. i am going to bed. i will launch the video whenever youtube is ready. and i'll let you know! oops
big news: i have decided that the second i click "public" on this video sunday morning, i am taking two full weeks off. i will do absolutely nothing. i ain't even gonna play any video games. don't even email me. well, back to work
btw i make this distinction right now, twelve hours into the friday of a 100-hour work week, because You All Out There can't stop calling me "lazy" in your emails, so i might as well Go For It lmao
really: a guy flat out told me "Just upload the video. You have literally the easiest job in the world." i realize that anyone who actually watches my videos would not even say something like that as a "joke", so i realize that guy was perfectly serious. lord
i made a massive patreon post about this, so here's the tiny twitter version: the cyberpunk video is REAL GOOD (and huge). it's gonna take another month. it's the best thing i've ever made, so please wait a little longer so i can finesse it! expect it week one of august.
additional contributions to the delay: the cyberpunk video too interconnectedly references the next six videos that i needed to also research and write outlines for the next six scripts while making this one. i played 110 video games total for this review.
Season Two of action button features Big Changes: finalized branding, a fancy website, new hires, and an extreme re-focusing of tone, mission statement, and style. i dare not spoil what i mean; for now let's leave it at: i'm gonna cut down on bad jokes (and cut UP on good ones).
i'm hearing rumors that nintendo is making a "nintendo switch pro" that will run breath of the wild in 60fps. this could be big
the above tweet is a joke. this one is not: my Inside Source at nintendo tells me that the nintendo switch OLED model does in fact run super mario odyssey at 60fps. very intriguing
i'm sorry: the above tweet was also a joke. super mario odyssey has been 60fps since day one both docked and handheld
BIG NEWS: after a year and a half of being My Beast Friend, as of this week "Little" Bibbithy "Bibby" D'Babbis Babbis has started approaching my desk and explicitly asking to be lifted into my lap, where he stands on all fours staring at the front door (his favorite stare-target)
i always wanted a dog that would sit in my lap by choice, though not a big one--not the kind of dog who feels more like a bad roommate when they in your lap. i mean like a small one who just kind of chills there. if only there was a word for that. oh well! back to work
getting bibby to do this has been a YEAR-long process of picking him up and putting him in my lap (aka "lap jail") when he barks too many times, because he can't get down from the chair by himself and it genuinely calms him down. well, now he stands up and asks! NOW back to work
it's JULY 4TH aka "America Day"! why not celebrate with my sousaful review of METAL WOLF CHAOS? this is one of the best videos i have yet made. i dare say no other review of METAL WOLF CHAOS is mathematically possible. thanks, @devolverdigital
don't YOU want to watch the review that got HUNDREDS of comments like THIS less than an HOUR after it was posted, from people who clicked on a twenty-minute video about METAL WOLF CHAOS and somehow made it through at least fifteen minutes???
some Production Notes on this video:
1. i wrote this script in 40 minutes--that's only twice as long as it took me to read it into a microphone! wow i type fast
2. this video took exactly one work day to write / produce / edit
