@PhilipCardella @xeni To be absolutely, absolutely, clear on this. With the evidence that currently is publicly available: The complaint, the whistleblower interviews, the lawyer statements for victims, and MSNBCs reporting; I believe this is a case of a single malicious medical practice.
@PhilipCardella @xeni That can change, depending on new evidence, to why he remained the gynecologist for the detention centers when these abuses came to light and how that connects to ICE overall as an organization.

An extensive investigation is needed regardless and there are still massive
@PhilipCardella @xeni issues with how detainees are treated in regard to inadequate medical care even without this biological genocide angle. Those issues were the bulk of the initial complaint to Project South and must be addressed.
@PhilipCardella @xeni That being said these atrocities regardless fit into the long and bloody history of women, particularly women of color, having their reproductive rights literally ripped away from them without their consent. Even outside of a genocidal context, that remains the heart of this.

Day 3: Took me a bit longer to get to this one but here we are.

Let's examine the question of classifying genocide and if there is a mechanism for connecting similar atrocities over time. /1
In 1944, Lemkin originally laid out seven "techniques" for genocide: political (which we discussed), social. cultural, economic, biological, physical, religious, and moral. With exceptions, we usually don't talk about these. Genocides usually have numerous on-going elements. /2
That fact is obvious since Lemkin was working with the Holocaust. There are other classifications such as colonial genocide that are sometimes used to differentiate certain instances from others thematically. /3

[Thread] This article was brought to my attention by @TheTattooedProf. I've known about the Secherian Vendée genocide hypothesis for some time but, in my admittedly shallow reading it doesn't hold water. Let's talk about it the piece. /1
quillette.com/2019/03/10/the…
I am sympathetic to the idea of obscure genocides. My goal in this field is genocide recognition especially for events that may not be considered genocide in the mainstream. To be a tad crude, I am an easy lay for this exact type of hypothesis but, for Vendée, it fails. /2
It doesn't work and the article certainly isn't helping. For one, it stumbles at the first point when playing to the concept of "Secret History". There is no such thing as "secret history". There is no conspiracy that buries this stuff that doesn't fit the "narrative". /3
