Trump is spewing massive amounts of misinformation about voting and elections at this press conference. We've fact-checked and debunked much of it already: 80 million unsolicited ballots, claims of massive fraud, foreign countries sending fake ballots, etc. IT'S MISINFORMATION.

THREAD: Roger Stone was supposed to be in prison now, having been convicted of 7 federal crimes. But thanks to Trump, he's a free man — and can call into Alex Jones' conspiracy show. He did Thursday, and urged Trump to do a bunch of illegal things regarding the election. (1/6)
The liberal group Media Matters was the first to publicize Stone's comments, which include a slew of completely false statements about voter fraud, blatant threats of voter intimidation, and a pubic call for Trump to launch a coup if he loses. (2/6) mediamatters.org/roger-stone/ro…
Among other things, Stone urged Trump to order the arrest of the Clintons, Mark Zuckerberg and Harry Reid. He urged Trump to seize all ballots in Nevada after the polls close. This is like a federal takeover of the election, which would probably violate the Constitution. (3/6)

NEW: Financial disclosures reveal USPS chief Louis DeJoy's business entanglements, which experts say are likely a major conflict of interest. He has a $30m stake in a USPS contractor, and he bought Amazon stock options after joining Trump's administration. cnn.com/2020/08/12/pol…
According to federal records, when he became postmaster general, DeJoy still owned a large equity stake in XPO, totaling between $30 million and $75 million. Federal ethics officials recently approved his decision to keep these assets, but outside experts are raising red flags.
DeJoy owned $100K-$250K in Amazon stock when he joined the administration. He divested on 6/24 but then bought new stock options for Amazon on the same day, worth $50K-$100K. Experts say this is a problem, given Trump's longtime interest in meddling in USPS prices for Amazon.

MINI-THREAD: Trump is lying about the Russia investigation and is accusing Sally Yates of crimes without any proof. (She's testifying right now before the Senate Judiciary Committee.) Here's a brief breakdown of Trump's lies.... (1/5)
Trump says Yates "has zero credibility."

Trump is not qualified to judge credibility — he has made 20,000 false or misleading claims since 2017.

Yates testified to Mueller, House Intel, and Senate Judiciary. Her testimony has been clear and consistent over three years. (2/5)
Trump says Yates "was part of the greatest political crime of the century." There was no crime. (Trump couldn't name the supposed "crime" when asked) Trump is talking about the debunked "Obamagate" conspiracy theory. Here's our breakdown from May. (3/5) cnn.com/2020/05/13/pol…

DEEP DIVE: Experts from across the political spectrum are terrified of a disputed November election. With Trump's norm-breaking behavior, plus the unprecedented challenges of pandemic-era voting, the circumstances are ripe for a post-election nightmare. cnn.com/2020/07/20/pol…
Exhibit A: Trump thinks mail-in voting hurts his re-election has fought hard to restrict it. But he's been unsuccessful, in blue & red states. Having lost this battle, Trump could blame mail-in voting if he loses. That would fit with 8 years of precedent. We have the paper trail.
November 2012: Trump backed Romney. On Election Day, Trump spread baseless conspiracy theories about vote-rigging. After Romney lost, Trump called the election a "sham" and literally said, "We should march on Washington and stop this travesty." He called for a popular revolt.

Reeling after a weekend campaign rally with lower-than-expected turnout, President Trump changed the subject Monday morning with a series of widely debunked lies about alleged voter fraud in US elections, stoking fears of a "rigged election" this November. cnn.com/2020/06/22/pol…
Trump claimed "mail-In Ballots will lead to a RIGGED ELECTION." He also claimed "MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WILL BE PRINTED BY FOREIGN COUNTRIES." He claimed without proof that his political opponents were "using Covid in order to cheat" in the election. cnn.com/2020/06/22/pol…
Trump is lying about voter fraud. CNN has repeatedly debunked these comments, and his primary allegation -- that voting-by-mail leads to "massive fraud" -- is completely untrue. There is no widespread in US elections, regardless of the voting method. cnn.com/2020/06/22/pol…

THREAD: The President of the United States said today that "domestic terrorists have taken over Seattle," the 18th largest city in the nation. This is totally untethered from reality. But nobody cared, because it's "Trump being Trump." Well, I care. Let's take a close look. (1/8)
First: Let's look at Trump's comments about Seattle. Here is context from my colleague @ddale8, the gold standard of fact-checking. Trump is referring to an "autonomous zone" protesters set up in a tiny part of the city. His comments are inaccurate. (2/8)
Trump is massively exaggerating the situation. At most, the "autonomous zone" spans 4x4 blocks in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. I used Google Maps, and the zone is ~0.08 square miles. That covers less than 1% of the entire city of Seattle, which is 142 square miles. (3/8)
