No one asked me but here are some of my initial thoughts:
1) Extend yourself immense compassion and prioritize genuine self-care.
2.)Read The Body Keeps The Score and Complex PTSD.

First and foremost, this is trauma inducing for kids, young adults, & adult children. 1/
3.) Bravely set and enforce boundaries. This is also an act of self-care.

4.) Fill your life with things that help you feel deeply & vibrantly alive. Spending time outside, walks, beauty, music, creating, laughing with friends on calls-whatever your Immutables are do them.
5. Ask parents if they want to do those things with you from time to time. Set the boundary that there's no political talk while doing them.

6. Offer fact checking help and resources to them, if you have the capacity to do so.

7. Be vigilant in insisting on embracing complexity for yourself, and not just reacting and responding to parent's belief system, not just being oppositional. Choose what you DO believe, not just what you do NOT believe.

8. Connect in whatever ways you have the capacity for and they're open to: games, walks, cooking together, video games, fishing, building a garden, making furniture, working on the car, etc

9. If you love them, remind them that they are loved--even if they're acting unliveable.

Since no one is asking, here's a starter set of ideas for parents to better innoculate their kids from radicalizing into hate- or violence-based worldviews: Making sure kids feel truly seen and heard, ensuring their voice has genuine agency in their lives 1/
making sure the feel genuinely loved for who they are and chose to be--and that they feel able to give love, to facilitate meaningful connections to things greater than themselves, 2/
to identify and holistically address trauma (environmental trauma, divorce, bullying, sexual trauma, violence, etc.), to encourage the deep seated belief that they belong to themselves, to eliminate a sense of meritocracy and achievement oriented worth and value, 3/

Among our concerns during a pandemic when our country has all but shut down? Extremists using this time to amplify their messaging to reach more kids as they are stuck at home and spending more time online. Read on. Co-authored by @noraflanagan (1/25)
Kids will be online far more than they were. Assignments, connecting with peers, filling time. Many of us are also now spending far more time with our kids, so now is the time to check in and be vigilant. (2/25)
We know the most susceptible to radicalization struggle with belonging and identity, feel a deep lack of agency, and oversimplify global issues into black and white thinking (us vs. them). (3/25)

#Parents of white kids: You are NOT powerless to keep your kids from being radicalized into white nationalism/alt right/alt lite/far right belief systems. The government isn't going to act, so we MUST. 1/
1. Make time to meaningfully connect with your children. It's MORE important than any household chore.
2. Let their voices have agency to help create rules and how your family operates
3. Talk to them, starting very young about racial, gender, and sexuality biases.
4. Support them in developing & determining who THEY want and choose to be in the world. This will likely change several times over their childhood.
5. Engage in meaningful & difficult conversations, even if you are uncomfortable or don't know what to say.
