The most surreal part of living through a fascist coup is that we're not even talking about it as such.
Trump: Elections are fraudulent, anti-fascism is a crime, my supporters kill protesters, federal officials should suppress my political opponents, and I plan to stay in office indefinitely.

The Press: "In a series of unusual moves, President Trump has broken the model..."
Trump is blatantly threatening to use the military to put down a popular uprising after he ignores the results of the election.

Sounds a lot like something a fascist would do! It would be great for journalists to say so.

One of the most surreal parts of the slow motion coup: we have to operate as if normal/democratic politics are still on-going, while we prepare for a breakdown in the constitutional order.

Very, very strange stuff.
The constitutional crisis isn’t coming: it’s already here.

Homeland Security and Justice refuse Congressional oversight and believe they can do anything they wish in service of Trump’s agenda — constitution be damned.

Roger Stone is Trump’s political id. If you don’t think Trump is considering a move towards totalitarianism after the election, you’re not paying attention.

Here is Roger Stone spelling out what that’d look like.
Stone calls for Trump to:

- Declare martial law / invoke Insurrection Act
- Arrest Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, the Clintons + “anybody else who can be proven to be involved in illegal activity”
- Stop counting ballots in NV
- Use federal law enforcement to stop counting votes
Stone organized the "Brooks Brother's riot" to stop counting votes in Miami Dade County in 2000.

He has 40+ years of rat-fucking experience on behalf of Republicans. The leap towards totalitarianism is the culmination of decades of undermining free and fair elections.

I'm not sure people understand how enormous of an upset it is for @CoriBush to defeat Lacy Clay.

She's a nurse who's never held elective office. She doesn't know rich people she can call for big checks. She didn't moderate her stances to accommodate the status quo.

It's huge.
I worked for Cori in 2018 because she inspired me. It was devastating to watch up close how stacked the system was against her. But, she was relentless.

This cycle her amazing team, @justicedems, @sunrisemvmt and others help put her over the top. She's a force of nature.
Her victory is a testament to the growing power of @justicedems and the entire progressive wing of the party.

@alexandrasiera, @_waleedshahid and the JD crew keep getting better. @HelenBrosnan and @fshakir ran top-notch IEs.

Working people are getting organized.

Tfw you’re pro-fa.
I’m sure Trump “accidentally” picked this fascist symbol for his campaign, just like he accidentally tweeted out a “white power” video.

And “accidentally” used a Nazi symbol to refer to anti-fascists two weeks ago.

And “accidentally” called Nazis “very fine people.”
When someone shows you they’re a Nazi, believe them.

If we are talking about abolishing things that were created to defend slavery, we should also talk about the Senate and electoral college.
Our constitution is a compromise between freedom and justice for all and the power of the slave holders.

Our political system is still so unrepresentative and anti-democratic because it was designed to include the slave holding states.
The US is 13.4% black.

The US senate is 2% black.

New York state had a higher death rate from the pandemic than nearly anywhere else in the world. Many thousands died because Cuomo didn't want to shut down the state (against the advice of California's governor).

And yet, the press says this.
Cuomo looked decisive on TV, but his management of the pandemic was atrocious.

@propublica's reporting is crystal clear: California acted decisively and avoided mass death. Cuomo acted slowly causing mass death. propublica.org/article/two-co…
I have multiple friends who've lost family members to the pandemic in New York. Would all of them have died if Cuomo (and de Blasio) acted sooner?

Journalists shouldn't give them a pass.

The cops are rioting in NYC.

de Blasio and Cuomo aren't doing anything to stop them.

This isn't just a Republican problem.
The cops are assaulting and arresting anyone they see in NYC and Buffalo.

New York State suspended habeas corpus.

Democrats like de Blasio and Cuomo need to stand up against cops to defend civil rights and black lives -- or they need to resign.
It's easy to imagine what progressive leaders could do if they had the will.

In Minneapolis, the city council is disbanding the police department and radically rethinking public safety.

In NYC, de Blasio and Cuomo have done nothing to reign in cops.

They're complicit.
