2/ “I just sort of... how would I say? I elevated, or I developed into a Panther. When I joined the Black Panther Party at 16-and-a-half years old, it was after having an entire youth of not only just activism when it was political…” ietv.co/3cdyKsM
3/ “…But also I was a Boy Scout and a Cub Scout and I was just raised to help people. My parents socialized me to care about other people. It was almost like a rite of passage. It was like you grew up into being a Panther.” – @nilerodgers ietv.co/3cdyKsM
4/ The native New Yorker grew up on the Lower East Side. “Even though my parents, they had a tough time because they were beatniks, heroin addicts, but they were intellectual and really smart. They knew that education was my way and my ticket out…” ietv.co/3cdyKsM
5/ “…Not only just education, but just basic humanity. My mom used to talk to me about the golden rule. This is serious, it's so funny that she would always tell me, 'Treat others the way that you'd like them to treat you.' Over and over." – @nilerodgers ietv.co/3cdyKsM
6/ Rodgers had been part of what he said was called "the movement" for "some time," he said, noting that his circle of friends was not only motivated by racial inequality, but also the Vietnam War. ietv.co/3cdyKsM
7/ “As we became a teen, especially people of color and poor people, were instantly just shipped off to Vietnam…” ietv.co/3cdyKsM
8/ “…So I was in a number of antiwar organizations that were pro-women's movement, and the start of the gay riots at Stonewall. All of these movements were just converging, that's why we called it the movement. Everything was happening.” – @nilerodgers ietv.co/3cdyKsM

It was a crime of passion that had every New Yorker rapt with attention in the summer of 1972. 3 armed men entered a Brooklyn bank, thinking it would be a straightforward heist, but fate had other plans. The event would go on to inspire a classic film. #NewYorkGritty 🎞️🧵:
1/ On Aug. 22, 1972, John Wojtowicz, Salvatore Naturile & Robert Westenberg attempted to rob a bank in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Gravesend. Unbeknownst to them, the money in the vault had already been collected earlier that day, leaving the branch with half the funds expected.
2/ Within minutes of the robbers entering the bank, a teller triggered an alarm that alerted police to the crime unfolding. Cops dashed to the scene on Avenue P in and formed a perimeter around the bank. 1 of the 3 would-be robbers fled once police showed up.
A new study shows that cats may be just as affectionate as dogs. The study, which was published in Current Biology, found that pet cats also have distinct attachment styles toward their owners in the same way dogs and babies do. 🧵 ietv.co/3iWev78
1/5 The research, which was done by a team at Oregon State University, also found that 64 percent of cats showed what is known as a "secure" attachment style.
2/5 What does that mean? These cats showed no signs of distress when their caregivers left the room and a healthy mix of attachment and exploration when they returned.
