The Social dilemma,
This Netflix documentary has been hyped so much on social media, that I have to watch it now,
/Start/
(1/n)
A whole lotta negative news headlines been said over years with a very apt music in the background.
All true.
(2/n)
A problem in the tech industry.
But one the biggest.
(3/n)
I don't know if Tristan Harris is good actor or is actually scared of the issue.
(4/n)
Users are being sold.
"If you're not paying for the product then you are the product."
(5/n)
How can we grab the maximum attention of the user is the thing companies like Google, Facebook, snapchat, Instagram, twitter, youtube and many more are trying to solve for themselves.
(6/n)
They are so successful because before this point I didn't even think it can be a bit leading or wrong to build such features, and myself am working on it.
Lets see if I scratch the project within next 80 mins.
(7/n)
Their main product is gradual, slight, imperceptible CHANGE in your own behavior and perception.
(8/n)
"They sell certainty, you have to have great predictions, for which you need data" of, for placing the advertising.
(9/n)
We are a part of a marketplace that trades in human futures
(10/n)
Everything anyone doing online is being watched, is being tracked, is being measured. Every action.
(11/n)
They have more information about you, than you or anything/ anyone you know.
(12/n)
Engagement
Growth
Advertising
(13/n)
They have thought of controlling that usage, consumption for YOU.
(14/n)
"Any sufficient advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic"
(15/n)
Magicians were the world's first neuroscientists, they understood how people's minds work.
(16/n)
Persuasing behaviour technology
Or
Positive intermittent reinforcement,
You are being programmed at a deeper level
(17/n)
Everytime you pick up your phone to see if you've anything, thats not by accident, its designed for it.
(18/n)
There is no specific need for many notifications, more over having them over email, with no, or less than 15 percent info in it.
(19/n)
Growth hacking, the job who's only purpose is to dive into people's psychology to drive business growth.
Ps: I was about to start to make a career out of it!
(20/n)
We're all lab rats, they are manipulating us all. Not to find a cure for us, we are just zombies and they want us to look at more ads.
(21/n)
It is prison experiment, and they are the ones watching us.
(22/n)
They knew all this a lot ago, before starting with this, but they did it anyway.
(23/n)
We moved from tools based technology to addiction and manipulation based technology environment.
(24/n)
There are only two industries that call their customers 'users':
Illegal drugs and software.
(25/n)
A lot of their own scenarios where they couldn't help themselves from falling prey to what they have built.
(26/n)
Connecting with people actually triggers release of dopamine,
Social media is a drug, exploiting that evolution of millions of years.
(27/n)
We are not evolved to have social approval every 5 mins.
(28/n)
"The rate at which younger teens go out on a romantic date is been dropping"
Being from India, I really find this funny and contradictory.
(29/n)
Its a game between your one mind vs a 1000 brains and super computers and quadrillion times computing speeds on the opposite side of that screen.
Who is going to win?
(30/n)
Ai is overwhelming than human weaknesses already, the time we are worried about, machines taking over that is when it overwhelms human strengths.
(31/n)
We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented.
(32/n)
Social media, ironically, increases polarization, but keeps you online to keep you connected.
(33/n)
Pizzagate is something very fucked up thing.(
(34/n)
There is a study suggesting false things spread six times faster than the real counterpart.
Now I know why my reach is limited. :p
I am in the delusion since I know both this and whole documentary.
(35/n)
We have less control over who we are and what we believe in, now more than ever.
(36/n)
Propoganda based manipulation is not done from hacking these tools, they used the tools very carefully, legally.
(37/n)
The documentary very smoothly moved from a line of code to converting it into actual person's replica and zoomed out in sort of on a sinlge transistor on a chip.
(38/n)
You eill eventually become just another computing node.
(39/n)
Its not the technology that is a threat, its the technology's ability to bring out the worst in the society and the worst in society being the existential threat.
Ps: I almost actually auto types the last half of the above comment.
(40/n)
Technology is just going to get better at doing all these things, question is where are we going to go from here on?
(41/n)
We are going to be last generation that knew the world before this illusion takes place from the start.
How do you know you are in a matrix, if you don't know you were put there?
(42/n)
Whether it is to be utopia or oblivion will be a touch_and_go relay race right up to the final moment..
(43/n)
Technology good points, to not sound negative or maybe propogate the exact theme :p
(44/n)
Solutions, I am nor going to put it here, we have to brain storm on it, speak, discuss.
(45/n)
These markets undermine democracy, freedom and they should be outlawed.
(46/n)
Economy, finance, freedom, democracy, existence all is at stake here.
A whale alive should be more valuable than the dead one.
(47/n)
It was our choice to build, its our choice to change these technologies. It should be our responsibility to change it.
(48/n)
Its the critics who drive improvement, who are true optimists.
(49/n)
Not everyone recognizes this is a problem, which is necessary to reform these complications.

At first I wanted to write a review while watching it live, (I've seen it someone do it, felt good to read)
But in first 5 mins I knew, more than my review I wanted to put this message out there, so I've mostly put up the dialogues or points that
(Cont.)
I wanted to spread or remembered later, just put it out here. Also, I've put a couple of my own lame words in there, but ignore it if you want.
Also, specially this sounded just like the premise of documentary, since I couldn't keep Twitter out of sight.
Ironically, like the premise, thank you Netflix for recommending this, do it for everyone and make everyone speak about it.
And everyone talk about it in person, as well as on your social channels, we need to make it recommend what is right, what is true.
Ok.bye
