so they carted out America Ferrera to tell a story about racist Hollywood during an award show that has nominated ZERO Latinx performers in a comedy or drama in the last SIX YEARS? wanted to make sure I got that right #TheEmmys
they made such a big point to celebrate diversity but the night’s two big winners, Succession and Schitt’s Creek, are shows about megarich white families?
I’ll take less Heritage Months*
and more actual representation,

As a comedian, I get asked to pitch ideas for television shows and movies. I work from the heart, so I mostly pitch stories based on the circumstances of my life or my family’s.
And while I have been fortunate enough to sell a few projects, I’ve also been turned down. It happens. No one bats a thousand. And in retrospect, some of my ideas just weren’t good enough. But some definitely were.
I’ve been told my stories are too personal, too sad, too earnest. I’ve even heard too Cuban and too “Alzheimersy.” I’ve been turned down because I don’t have a big enough social media presence. I hate Twitter. Whoops.
