✅ Protecting retail workers
✅ Tackling repeat offenders
✅ Disrupting organised criminal gangs

Prime Minister @RishiSunak is cracking down on retail crime and protecting our high street shops.

Here's how ⬇️
1⃣ Increasing surveillance of suspects using facial recognition technology, backed by a £55 million investment for police forces.

Using mobile units with live facial recognition across the country, police forces will be able to track down perpetrators and prevent crime. No more faceless crimes - that's why we're investing in live facial recognition technology to catch known criminals before they strike.
2⃣ Making assaulting a retail worker a standalone criminal offence.

We're sending a clear message that we won’t tolerate abuse of shop staff. Protecting workers - we're introducing a tough new standalone offence to tackle those who would assault retail workers.

Nobody should be allowed to climb or damage our war memorials.

From today, if you climb on monuments, you will be fined or imprisoned.

That’s not all we’re doing to tackle unlawful behaviour at protests ⬇️ Climbing on war memorials now an offence.
❌ Banning flares and pyrotechnics.

We’re keeping the public safe from violent and dangerous behaviour. Bringing flares and fireworks to protests now an offence.
❌ Banning face coverings that purposely conceal your identity.

If you wear one, police will have extended rights to remove it. Using face coverings to conceal identity now banned.

The level of net migration is too high.

Today we’re announcing a new plan to reduce immigration and curb the abuse of our visa system.

Here is what we're doing 🧵👇 Immigration action. Banning overseas students from bringing their families to the UK, unless they are on postgraduate research degrees. Stopping immigration undercutting British workers Scrapping the 20% going rate salary discounts offered for shortage occupations
Firstly, we’re reforming the Health and Social Care Visa to prevent overseas care workers from bringing dependants to the UK.

And we’re requiring social care firms in England to be CQC registered to sponsor visas, putting an end to abuse of the system. Immigration action. Stopping overseas care workers from bringing dependants to the UK
We’re increasing the minimum earnings threshold for skilled workers by 48% to £38,700, encouraging businesses to look to British talent first and invest in their workforce. Immigration action. Stopping immigration undercutting British workers, by increasing the minimum earnings threshold by 48%

Following the Supreme Court’s judgment on the Migration Partnership with Rwanda, Prime Minister @RishiSunak is taking the immediate steps necessary to deliver our promise to stop the boats.

Here’s our plan and the progress so far ⬇️
Today's ruling confirmed that removing asylum seekers to a safe third country is lawful.

We're working on a new treaty with Rwanda, ready to be finalised.

We'll also be prepared to change any domestic laws or international relationships that block our plans.
Our current asylum system isn't right or fair. We’re tackling it by:

📜 Introducing new laws, so if you come here illegally you can’t stay
🌎 Agreeing new deals globally to stop the boats at source
❌ Clamping down on social media content luring people into illegal crossings

Today we're adopting a new approach to Net Zero that is pragmatic, proportionate and realistic – meeting upcoming targets without adding burdens to working families.

We have led on reducing emissions faster than any other major economy.

A thread🧵 Graph showing that the UK has reduced emissions faster than any other major economies
Because of the progress we have already made, the UK’s share of global emissions is now less than 1%.

As we continue to cut emissions, we also need to make sure we do not lose the consent of the British people facing higher living costs. Graph showing the UK’s share of global emissions has fallen to less than 1 per cent. This is compared to other countries including China at 27 per cent and United States at 11 per cent.
The UK is a world leader in cutting emissions, surpassing the targets most countries have set for 2030 including Australia, Canada, Japan and the US.

We have overdelivered on all our targets to date. Graph showing the UK is committed to reducing emissions faster than any other major economy and is on track to deliver Net Zero.
