I'm sure it's not a port city land grab from would-be climate warlords using inauthentically organized violence pushed by white supremacist proxies as their excuse ahead of a major election or anything
You know, I've been thinking about my use of the term "climate warlords" a lot, because I'm really into it (I thought it up myself) and sort of considering my own criteria for such things. What would a "climate warlord," a term I throw around a lot, look like?
So by my own definition, a "climate warlord" could also be described as a "climate robber baron." It would be someone who has wormed their way into power over others and treats regions as their own private fiefdoms, as they slash and hack away protections for workers to ensure
that they are, actually, a fiefdom -- corrupt people with enormous amounts of amassed wealth from labor they personally exploit.

As mass climate migrations become more common (and they will; it's already begun from California and Texas thanks to fires and hurricanes), more of
these would-be robber barons will try to take advantage of it, keeping people scared and separate with a combination of disinformation, surveillance, and brutal crackdowns against human rights.

So what would that look like in practice?
Probably just like this

Second, I have a habit of thinking I thought something up myself because I forgot that I read it, and I just realized that "climate warlord" might be one of those things. If I stole this from you and later decided that it was mine, it was completely unintentional and I will fix!!

I've been thinking about doing this thread for a couple of days. This is mostly for myself so I can go back to it, I don't really expect anybody in this dying hellscape to see it, but I wanted to lay it out here for my own sake. Here's my last few years in news stories:
Here's me, just so incredibly naive in late 2016, saying that "fake news" wasn't the problem so much as lack of journalism. For the record, I still stand by this, but at the time I had no idea how much social media was in on the disinfo attacks:

After a terrible series of events and realizations, I came forward anonymously: theguardian.com/technology/201…

Hi everybody! A lot of you have been asking me what you can get me for my birthday, which is this weekend. Just kidding, literally no one asked me that but just in case you were considering getting me something please donate here instead entertainmentcommunity.org
Alternately, please consider joining a #WritersGuildofAmerica picket line and support the absolute shit out of this strike
I haven't really articulated this much but: Disinformation depends on altering our stories, true ones and fictional ones, to affect how we see ourselves and each other and make the world seem much more negative. There is a lot of power in culture, so of course jackholes want it

"The majority of the 1,000-plus book challenges analyzed by The Post were filed by just 11 people.
Each of these people brought 10 or more challenges against books in their school district; one man filed 92 challenges."

See? SEE? What did I tell you? It's always the same people for a reason!!
Anyway I hope WaPo's op-ed department remembers this the next time they decide to have some noxious bothesideser let rip

I meant it when I said climate warlords.
"As the planet warms, more calamities will strike the U.S. and, if the recent past is any indication, create new opportunities for militias and other extremist groups to mobilize and recruit...." Four-panel meme that says: ...
That's why all the insane border hardening and eugenics shit is happening now too. Borders are there to consolidate resources. Well, we're the resources they're trying to consolidate.
