THREAD: For these young professional ballet dancers, the pandemic is just the latest stress in a high-pressure career full of them. – @LeighTVReporter

1/ As ballet classes slowly resume @sfballet, with only five people allowed in the dance room, 20-year-old Joshua Jack Price continues honing his technique from afar.

2/ “My return to San Francisco is a delicate balance of following my dream and staying healthy. When the time is right, I can't wait to see all my inspiring coworkers again.” – Joshua Jack Price, @sfballet dancer

3/ Price, who’s a first-year company member of the @sfballet, has been sheltering in place in his hometown of Queensland, Australia. He takes class in one room over Zoom, while his teacher is in the other room.

4/ For the first months of lockdown, Price practiced ballet in his childhood home on a little piece of vinyl flooring. He spends 2-3 hours a day on his craft. But forget about keeping up with those grande jettes, turns and leaps – too dangerous right now.

5/ Practice for 18-year-old ballerina Zoe Lucich had been going similarly. “I can't work on my jump ... But I can work on other things, like my turnout. It's a time to reflect on different things.”

6/ Lucich is fortunate to have a wooden stage outside her home in San Anselmo, California to practice on in the warmer months. She’s often taking technique barre classes and practicing a routine from “The Sleeping Beauty.”

7/ “It’s a really hard solo. It takes a lot of control, which I really need to practice. Forgive me, I'm out of shape right now, because of the conditions and the pandemic, but I'm trying my best.” – Zoe Lucich, @sfballet school graduate

8/ Lucich now enters @sfballet’s trainee program. Trainees are treated like professional dancers. The work day starts at 10, and ends at 6 or 7 on non-performance days. When there’s a show, the day extends three to four hours.

9/ Lucich left public school in the middle of eighth grade to pursue her dream. “It got to a point where it was too hard. I felt like I was living two different lives. I couldn't handle it. It was too much for me.”

2/ “I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded every citizen under the constitution,” Trump wrote on social media. “I once asked, ‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’ Now I know the answer.” Image

It was a crime of passion that had every New Yorker rapt with attention in the summer of 1972. 3 armed men entered a Brooklyn bank, thinking it would be a straightforward heist, but fate had other plans. The event would go on to inspire a classic film. #NewYorkGritty 🎞️🧵:
1/ On Aug. 22, 1972, John Wojtowicz, Salvatore Naturile & Robert Westenberg attempted to rob a bank in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Gravesend. Unbeknownst to them, the money in the vault had already been collected earlier that day, leaving the branch with half the funds expected.
2/ Within minutes of the robbers entering the bank, a teller triggered an alarm that alerted police to the crime unfolding. Cops dashed to the scene on Avenue P in and formed a perimeter around the bank. 1 of the 3 would-be robbers fled once police showed up.

A new study shows that cats may be just as affectionate as dogs. The study, which was published in Current Biology, found that pet cats also have distinct attachment styles toward their owners in the same way dogs and babies do. 🧵 ietv.co/3iWev78
1/5 The research, which was done by a team at Oregon State University, also found that 64 percent of cats showed what is known as a "secure" attachment style. Man lying on bed with his cat and looking at each other.
2/5 What does that mean? These cats showed no signs of distress when their caregivers left the room and a healthy mix of attachment and exploration when they returned. Cute Black and White Cat Lounging on a couch next to a fishi
