Not so random. I did a film recently. RECENTLY. When negotiating pay, I found out that B/C/D list white actresses, for the same work, on another network were getting 3 X WHAT I GOT. Same work. Similiar storyline. But THEY, WW (in my similiar celeb status) still got 3X more.
So when we talk about the racial/gender wealth gap & how much Black Americans have lost out on....yeah. It’s a LOT. And even in the gender wage gap, WW while still making less than WM, still make WAY MORE than BW/WOC. I bring that up bcuz, when I think about how much Black ppl...
...have lost out on, in our lifetimes, it’s so much. So so much. In every career, every education level...from the time we are born until the day we die.
That’s housing, education, statistics show that while BW are the most educated/we are promoted THE LEAST, health care, self care, childhood activities...hell, travel😩. We love talking about passport twitter but the reality is ppl are BROKE. And that’s across the board. One of...
...my fave lines from Atlanta was when that WM who loved AA & African cultures, smugly asked Donald why he’d never been to the Continent & Donald looked at him & said...I’m broke. Like, yes.
So knowing all of this, this ep is really powerful. This woman, not only breaks down Black voting patterns of like the last 100 yrs (by gender and age) she also explains (we already know) why the Black vote is as powerful as it is. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…
One of the things she brought up was, how George Floyd, when he was killed ALREADY HAD COVID IN HIS LUNGS. AND, he was in the city he was in TO FIND WORK. So before police even killed him, he already had Covid & was in need of work. And this is normal. Being Black in this...
...knowing that ‘if it ain’t one thing, it’s another’...LITERALLY. And this is normal. Just fine. They also go into *why* Black Americans vote like we do. Ppl love being paternalistic about Black voters like we as a people haven’t jumped from party to party BECAUSE we are...
...literally fighting for our lives. Policy matters. I’ve been thinking this whole time (my own ignorance which is why I love podcasts that break Black history down like this) that Black Voters fled the Repub party in the 60’s w/ the CRA/VRA, but NO. They started fleeing...
...in mass numbers with the New Deal in the 40’s. Why??? Because it was racist as shit & uplifted white Americans while Black Americans got NOTHING. So let’s talk pragmatic okay??? No one votes more than us and that shit is for a reason. But folks talking about us like...
...we’re dumb. Need saving or need to be told whom/what to vote for. No that’s YA’LL. The ep also goes into how Black Americans, particularly BW are THE MOST RELIGIOUSN GROUP IN THE COUNTRY but will NEVER (as a group) vote Repub because of their racism. Black voters are the...
...smartest and most reliable voters in this country and I’m willing to die on that hill. And history PROVES this. Cause we have & have always had THE MOST to lose.
And yes...YES we still have a long way to go. Yes we’ve been screwed over. Yes voter apathy is real & a direct result of all of the unseen, uncredited labor Black activists & organizers have been doing for centuries. And still...you will not win without whose vote? That’s right.

I did a breakdown on @poplifepodcast with Jeff, Nai, Inca & Shawn about the WGA & SAG strike, but I’ve never really explained the reasoning for the strike #OnHere. So, here it goes. I’ve been a SAG/Aftra member since 1994. Basically, the Screen Actors Guild is the Union all…
… all working actors have to join, in order to work on union projects. I came to LA for the summer in 1994 as a kid & immediate started working. So I had to join. Through the union, you have access to health care and other resources. Resources that the Union fought for. One…
… of the resources, is residuals. What are residuals? Well, before streaming, if you worked on a film or tv show, there was a huge chance that show or movie, would play multiple times, on network television/cable. Every tv show had their eye on SYNDICATION. When your show…

When he said, worst outcome for kids is when dad get new gf/wife, espc if dad has kids w/ new gf/wife becuz statistics show men abandon their previous kids… this hit bcuz I have SEEN this. Multiple times in my life. Wow.
There’s a saying that I’ve heard from women my whole life & it’s is something like, men (not ALL) love the kids as much as he loves the woman. And if mom & dad fall out, mom stays & there’s a big chance dad will be on to the next. This makes perfect sense in the context of …
… those other videos where the guys could not get past who is/isn’t f*cking them when talking about mentoring/servicing/spending time w/ kids in the community. Like wow.

Personally, I think the sharing of videos w/ police murdering Black ppl (including Black children) is continuing the legacy of Chattel Slavery/Jim Crow. White families would dress in their Sunday best, bring the kids, bring food & watch human lynchings as entertainment.
I would never in a million years WANT to see videos of *any* school shootings with kids being killed. EVER. I don’t want to *see* anyone be murdered. I also think it furthers the desensitization (that Black ppl STILL experience in hospitals today) of violence toward Black ppl.
Also, how would you feel constantly seeing people who look like your mom, or son MURDERED, repeatedly. For centuries. And have people on the news, argue whether those folks *deserved* it. How would your mental health be? That trauma would be passed down in your DNA.

Yesterday, there was a thread w/ people realizing that if getting an abortion is a felony, then this is *also* targeted voter disenfranchisement of women/ppl w/uteruses. It was a light bulb moment for so many in the thread. Nevermind that the convo about felons & voting rights…
…is not a new one. Activists have been beating that drum for decades. And while I don’t know the ins & outs of everything, it’s just a reminder of how race trumps *everything*. Because the idea that felons (men AND women) can & do get their voting rights taken away has…
…*never* been a concern for most ppl who’ve never had someone close to them in jail/prison. Or it was always something about *criminals* that didn’t effect *everyone else*. Because *those ppl* “broke the law” and were suffering the ‘consequences of their own decisions’.

Twitter isn’t a real place when folks stay on here all day calling ppl (not cis men of course) who need/want abortions “sluts” & “whores” but are silent on SCOTUS *also* saying they’re also coming for CONTRACEPTION. They talking about you too darlin’.
“Why don’t ya’ll use condoms”
Uncle Clarence said he thinks condoms, the pill, IUD’s yadda yadda also need to go. And oh yeah, say you *want* your pregnancy but miscarry or have an ectopic pregnancy (can’t control these things) and need a D&C so ya know…you don’t die…
…they’re talking about YOU TOO. And we already know they’re saying NO exception for rape or incest. And for men, I’d bet money that *at least* HALF of the girls/women in your life have experienced or have needed these services. Hell, *you’ve* needed these services for…

I don’t know shit about shit. But what I *do* know is that Twitter has been a huge platform for people, often ignored & criminalized by mainstream media. Black ppl and POC’s, women, specifically Black Women & WOC & Trans Women, LGBTQ folks, folks living in poverty…
…as the middle class has been shrinking for DECADES w/o any real policy changes to address it. We’ve seen REAL conversations of how student loans affect ppl’s whole lives & we’ve seen that even with the changes to our health care, ppl still have to crowdfund to get their …
…basic healthcare needs paid for. The space that Black Twitter created specifically, made way for the 16*9 project to happen & we’ve seen the *national* backlash to that in schools/politicians media. Conversations pushing culture (kicking & screaming) forward about…
