The highest scoring midfielder in FPL as of writing, Son picked up an injury in the first half against Newcastle and is now expected to already drop in price tonight
Who are the best replacements? What should you do with him? ⤵️
These were Jose Mourinho’s words in the press conference after the game:
"It's an injury, we'll have him out for a while. It's his hamstring."
He also said that he expects Son to miss out for a long time. If it’s a partial or a complete muscle tear, we don’t know, but...
I probably won't expect Son to play in October at least. It should be mentioned that Son often recovers faster than usual.
For those that don’t care or think about the price drop it could be a wise decision to wait a few days until the injury has been assessed 🚑
So who should you replace him with ❓
Well, if you have some money in the bank, an upgrade to a player like Fernandes, Rashford or maybe even Sterling might be on the cards for you.
However, in this thread I will only mention players that could be afforded by everyone:
1⃣ Harvey Barnes (£7.0)
Looking at midfielders below £9.0, Harvey Barnes crushes the underlying stats when it comes to goal scoring potential.
Last season his problem was being a rotation risk and getting subbed early. He has now played 90 mins in all 3 games and has some...
great looking fixtures coming up with WHU, AVL, ars, lee.
He is currently £2.1 cheaper than Son so it does free up quite some funds to use elsewhere.
The con with Barnes is that he isn't on any sort of set-pieces and that his assisting potential hasn't looked that great so far
📊 Stats: (MIDs below £9.0)
Goals: 1 (5th)
Shots: 12 (1st)
Shots on target: 7 (1st)
Shots in the box: 10 (1st)
Big chances: 1 (9th)
xG: 1.54 (2nd)
Assists: 1
Key passes: 3
xA: 0.51
FPL points: 18 (6th)
2⃣ Wilfried Zaha (£7.1)
A controversial player in the FPL-community, Wilfred Zaha is currently my 2nd favorite option behind Barnes.
Known as an incredibly streaky player he has looked like his former self these first 3 GWs and is the highest FPL point scoring MID below £9.0
A massive bonus (especially this season) is that he is on penalties and being the captain, he is completely nailed.
With CHE (A) coming up next it feels like a perfect fixture for him if Reece James starts because of the space in behind
📊 Stats: (MIDs below £9.0)
Goals: 3 (1st)
Shots: 8 (4th)
Shots on target: 3 (2nd)
Shots in the box: 7 (2nd)
Big chances: 3 (1st)
xG: 1.79 (1st)
Assists: 0
Key passes: 4
xA: 0.41
FPL points: 24 (1st)
3⃣ James Rodriguez (£7.6)
Probably the main reason behind the transformation of Everton so far, James has already showed he is one of the best playmakers in the league.
Unfortunately we now know that he probably isn't on penalties and the upcoming 2 fixtures aren't the...
greatest despite them being 2 home games (BHA, LIV)
That is part of why he isn't higher on the list and also because his goal scoring threat seems limited.
Other than that his assist potential is through the roof and Everton as a team currently has the highest xG in the league.
📊 Stats: (MIDs below £9.0)
Goals: 1 (5th)
Shots: 6 (7th)
Shots on target: 2 (10th)
Shots in the box: 3 (8th)
Big chances: 0
xG: 0.37 (24th)
Thanks for reading my thread about what I believe are the best replacements for Son. Most of them are on the cheaper side of things so may give you some money to spend elsewhere 😀
Let's just get this terrible gameweek 3 over with and move on to gameweek 4 shall we? 🍀

Estupiñan, Gabriel, Stones and Chilwell all have above 50% ownership among engaged managers
But most of you will only start three defenders. Should you have all four? Which one should you leave out?
Gabriel £5.0m (24.4%)
Arsenal had an nPxGC per 90 of exactly 1 last season putting them third in the league behind Man City and Newcastle. They have kept the same back line and added Rice, Timber and possibly Raya. All signings to improve the team defensively.
The highest xGI per 90 among their defenders did Gabriel have with 0.14. He was also the second best for xG among defenders in the entire league. He missed a total of 11 minutes last season and should be pretty much as nailed this season with no real competition at LCB.
Top 5 system changes ahead of the new #FPL season (THREAD)
Klopp making Trent play in midfield, Pep doing the same with Stones and Xhaka getting into the box while scoring goals
Things change from season to season, these are my top five changes that will impact FPL this season
LIVERPOOL
In GW30 last season, Klopp changed the system and started to play with Trent as an inverted fullback. It worked well for them, but this season with the signings of Mac Allister and Szobozslai it so far in preseason seems like that system has changed. It’s not a...
massive change in its own right but it could be big for two players and their output in FPL, Salah and Trent.
After GW30, Henderson played the majority of games as the right sided central mid. His heatmap usually looked something like this.
Last season we had Haaland, Mitoma, Alvarez and Darwin who all impacted our FPL season in a way or another
Which new players could impact our season the most? Here are my top 10 and why... ⤵️
André Onana £5.0m (13.6%)
The 27-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper signed for Man Utd for €52.5m to be their replacement for De Gea. De Gea who in recent years has never really been a great option in FPL, at least not to start the season.
Onana however has already flooded into managers teams with 13.6% ownership at the time of writing. Is he being overhyped? Man Utd had the most clean sheets in the league last season with 17. Could this improve with Onana? Bringing him in should make the centre backs more...
The 6 foot 4 Swedish striker now seems set to join Newcastle Utd for a club record fee
Of course I had to do a breakdown of what he will bring to the Premier League ⤵️
Alexander Isak started off his career at AIK when he broke into the first team as a 16-year-old, scoring 10 goals in 19 starts in his debut season.
The hype around him in Sweden was quickly built up and ahead of the 16/17 season he was sold to Dortmund for €8.60m. This...
is to this day the most amount of money a Swedish club has sold a player for.
He then had a tough time at Dortmund, not getting in ahead of the likes of players like Aubameyang and Reus, which is understandable. In 18/19 he was loaned out to the club Willem ll in the Eredivisie
