Pulled up some Ohio newspaper editions from Sept. 29, 1980 to see what was in the news the last time there was a General Election presidential debate...
First A1 headline I come across: "Klan in training for race war"
Apparently the KKK set up a "guerilla warfare training camp" in Alabama that members called Camp My Lai.
The wire reporter spoke with a husband and wife couple who had spent a year with the group away from their six children, all raised in their absence by a grandfather. Wow.
Below the fold in that Akron paper is this headline: "Cleveland busing has 'smooth' start"
The Cleveland school district had its first day of desegregated busing, with an administrator riding throughout the morning with white and Black students headed to various schools.
From the Cincinnati Enquirer: "Black voters won't turn out for President Carter this year as they did in 1976 unless he convinces them that Ronald Reagan 'Is a devil,' says a black political expert."
Also an update on the U.S. hostage crisis in Iran, which reached its 331st day.

This new courthouse was necessary because the old one burned down in 1879. Construction began in 1880 with an estimated cost of around $100,000.
A local "building fund" was levied on Henry Co. residents to pay for it.
Construction dragged on, and there was some kerfuffle in 1881 when it became apparent extra money would be needed to pay the heating apparatus, furniture, outdoor sidewalks...
That's when the state representative for Henry County offered his help
