I finished @weizman_eyal's Ungrounding last night and it has left me overwhelmed & speechless. I'll have a lot more to say about it but suffice it to say for now that, while some extraordinary books have been written about Gaza, this one for me is the most important. Here's why: Image
1. Ungrounding presents the most systematic, comprehensive, and irrefutable case that what Israel is perpetrating in Gaza is a genocide (Because this evidence is being used in the ongoing genocide case at the ICJ, it is necessarily ironclad).
2. It also adds the temporal dimension to Gaza's geography and explains the significance of each location. Meanwhile it also shows you the logic of Israel's destruction, not just of the architecture, but also of soil, water, topography, all to sever the link between land & people

It has been interesting today to watch "anti-imperialists", the "resistance" axis, the western far right, and Zionist hasbaraists unite once again to paint Syrians as "al Qaeda" and "terrorists", as they did for the 13 years the world united to crush their revolution.
Until Syrians expelled Assad in 2024, they had to endure attacks not just from the regime, but also Iran, Russia, Hizbullah, sectarian militias from Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, the US and Israel. And yet the conspiracy theories never ceased.

Just finished Bob Woodward's "War". A few takeaways. Biden and Harris detest Netanyahu and privately tried to discourage him from attacking Gaza, but Netanyahu received encouragement to "destroy Hamas" from the Jordanians, UAE, Saudis and Egyptians. Image

Netanyahu constantly ignored the counsel of the Biden Administration, but instead of confronting him or withholding support, the administration came out publicly strongly backing him, lest they be criticised for not standing fully with Israel.
The UAE, Jordan, Egypt and Saudis see Gaza mainly in terms of their paranoia about the Muslim Brotherhood (of which they see Hamas as an offshoot). Their main concern was that Gaza was inflaming their citizen's opinions, complicating matters for them.

Well, @alhaq_org's "voice of Palestine" Aaron Mate actually went on a regime junket, stood in front of the ruins (the camp's siege lasted 5 years), and did propaganda for the regime that had destroyed it. Image

This is why I will never forgive the likes of Noam Chomsky and Seymour Hersh and @LRB and @welt. After Assad's repeated and incontrovertible use of Sarin—one of the most excruciating forms of killing ever invented—they spent years trying to absolve the mass murderer.
The @LRB gave several front pages to Seymour Hersh to promote his patently false claims based on a single unnamed source. I identified the source and, as I pointed out, he had lifted his story from the Canadian conspiracy site Globalresearch.ca. lareviewofbooks.org/article/danger…
The irony is that @LRB's few middle east specialists had advised against publishing the story. It was commissioned by their literary editor Christian Lorentzen as a way of generating controversy and driving traffic. gawker.com/5541021/new-yo….
