I'm Shocked People Are Shocked by NLC's Treachery-THREAD
The Nigerian Labor Congress has been the outpost of nakedly mercenary and treacherous intrigues at least since Adams Oshiomhole became its leader.I know for a fact that in the early 2000s, every petrol price hike used to be
preceded by negotiations with, and eye-watering palm-greasing to, debauched labor aristocrats led by Oshiomhole. If the price of petrol was, say, N10 per liter and the government planned to raise it to, say, N20, it would increase it to N30. Compromised and coopted labor
bureaucrats would be encouraged to talk tough and go on strike to "protest" the hike. After "negotiations" and other theatrics, government would "back down" and agree to “reduce” the price to N20. Both the government and labor aristocrats would win, and the masses would lose.
Nonetheless, the masses would be thrilled that they didn’t have to pay N30 for a liter of petrol. Unsuspecting citizens would praise the labor leaders for "fighting" for them—and the government also got brownie points for being a "listening government." And everything went back
to normal. Until the next hike. And the same chicanery would play out. But post-Oshiomhole labor leaders, particularly the current ones, neither have Oshiomhole's criminally effective wiles nor his swaggering gutsiness. They're simply farouche, unthinking, mercenary know-nothings
whose dewy-eyed eagerness for financial inducement from the government caused them to botch an amateur theater. Of course, the current regime doesn’t even respect them enough to plot the sort of carefully choreographed histrionics that previous gov'ts hatched with Oshiomhole and
his gang of depraved underlings. That anyone even thought the barely literate mercantile scammers masquerading as labor leaders would lead a strike against the government's unpopular policies shows that many Nigerians know awfully very little about the crying moral poverty of
the NLC—and its evil twin the TUC.

Lawan and Supreme Court of Shameless Judicial Bandits
I was awoken on this side of the world by news of the reversal by the Nigerian Supreme Court of Senate Pres. Ahmed Lawan's primary election loss. I was already mentally prepared for it after the same Supreme Court affirmed
Godwin Akpabio's fraudulent primary win a few days ago. It's a well-planned judicial choreography. The Nigerian Supreme Court is straight-up the most hopeless Supreme Court in the history of the world's supreme courts. The same Court violated common sense and the will of voters
and gave us a "Supreme Court governor" in Imo State who never even pretended to have won an election. Now it has given Yobe and Akwa Ibom states "Supreme Court senate candidates" in Lawan and Akpabio. Lawan was too busy trying to be APC's presidential candidate to even
“Obi-dients” are the new Buharists. Better get ready for their rank stupidity and pigheadedness should Peter Obi become president. They’re perpetually angry. They're narrowminded, verbally primitive, ignorant, tunnel-visioned automatons who think
their illiterate trolling can stop people from expressing views that're contrary to theirs. They constitute a risible horde of unthinking troll brigade on the Internet & are incapable of the most basic level of cognitive complexity. If you’re not one of them, you're against them.
If you don’t sacrifice your critical faculty on the altar of Peter Obi political idolatry, you’re against their idol. If you write any favorable article about Obi, you’re an unflinching patriot, but if you do the same for Obi’s opponents, you’re a paid supporter of their idol's
A Plea for the FG to Pay Lecturers
Although ASUU strike has been called off and schools are scheduled to resume academic activities from next week, all is not well in most universities. I'm hearing heartbreaking stories of university lecturers who can't feed their families, who
can't buy the medications they need to survive life-threatening illnesses, who can't pay their children's school fees, and who can't even afford the cost of transportation to their schools because they haven’t been paid salaries for the 8 months that they were on strike. It looks
like the federal government is determined to keep its word that it won't pay the lecturers for the period they were on strike. Yes, I'd argued in the past that the government’s insistence on implementing the no-work-no-pay policy was justified in law, but when you know people
Tinubu’s Church Rat Reference to Climate Change Isn't Wrong
I frankly don’t get what people are mocking in Bola Tinubu’s characterization of climate-change policies for poor countries as “a question of how do you prevent a church rat from eating poisoned Holy Communion.” Tinubu
mere deployed familiar ecclesiastical metaphors to capture the dilemma that developing countries face over the dire existential adjustments that climate change policies require of them. He used “church rat” to symbolize a poor nation (Nigerian English speakers often say “as poor
as a church rat” where native English speakers say “as poor as a church mouse” to indicate extreme poverty) and “Holy Communion” to acknowledge the desirability of climate-change policies. But he qualified the “Holy Communion” as “poisoned” to suggest that it’s a bitter pill to
Obi’s Campaign Council Shows He Isn’t Different from APC and PDP
Peter Obi's initial presidential campaign council proves the point I've always made in private to his fervid fans: after all is said and done, Obi is just another Establishment Nigerian politician who has neither
the willingness nor the capacity to be the different and transformational leader that his supporters think he will be. He's merely riding on the crest of the wave of mass discontent with the status quo. The list isn't just inexcusably insular (Igbo men are even state coordinators
for Sokoto and Lagos!), it is also riddled with the type of embarrassing clerical errors and oversights that we've become accustomed to from Nigerian governments. If I were a man that idealistic young men and women have elevated to near sainthood as Obi has been, I would look
Aisha Buhari said she "suffered the consequences" of Buhari's Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which she said was triggered by the Civil War, his 1985 overthrow, and his serial electoral losses until 2015.
She claimed that she
"became a physiotherapist" to nurse him to sanity. Well, we know her highest legitimate academic qualification is a diploma in beauty therapy and cosmetology. But even if she truly became a physiotherapist (which Americans call a physical therapist), the fact is, physiotherapists
don't threat mental and emotional illnesses. They only threat physical injuries through physical activity, massage, etc. The specialists who treat mental and emotional illnesses are called psychotherapists.
No wonder that Buhari’s PTSD hasn’t been cured. He was treated by a
