THREAD ON URGENT NEED TO HELP OHIO END THIS THING --share widely

Last night's debate was appalling in so many ways

Trump's behavior. His lies. His refusal to condemn white supremacists--telling them to "stand by."

But the last 5 minutes were the...

1/

secure.actblue.com/donate/ohdems
...scariest of all.

Re-watch them if you can. Pressed again and again, he not only refused to say he'd accept the results of the election...he actually made clear that there are millions of votes he has no intention of counting if he has his way.

2/

Watch it. Again.

He makes it very clear. Under his plan, millions of votes simply won't be counted. (And Chris Wallace didn't call him on it).

Now, of course we can't let that plan happen. We will fight for very vote to be counted. In every state. In Ohio.

3/
But here's the truth.

His plan doesn't work in Ohio. And it doesn't work anywhere if Ohio is blue.

Why? Six reasons:

4/

secure.actblue.com/donate/ohdems
First, our early votes are counted and announced first. (Except for the ones still in the mail on Election Day, which have 10 days to arrive), 8:00 p.m. or so on election night.

There won't be anything to challenge here. Or a long delay.

Our EVs are counted and out first

5/
Second, our mail-in ballots are only sent to those who have applied, so Trump's BS claim about directly sent ballots doesn't apply here.

He can't apply his conspiracy theory to Ohio's mailed in ballots.

6/

secure.actblue.com/donate/2020-su…
Third, our Secretary of State is a Republican. So is our Governor. And they both have made clear that our VBM system is not susceptible to fraud.

So Trump can't claim "Dems rigged the election."

secure.actblue.com/donate/ohdems

7/
Fourth, our Electoral College votes are decisive. If Ohio is blue, as we saw in 2012 with the famous Karl Rove walk, the election is over.

And everyone knows it. Other states later counts are academic at that point.

8/

nytimes.com/2012/11/08/us/…
Fifth, the polls are tied here, despite less investment here than other states.

Our suburbs have flipped. Our economy is doing poorly.

Ohio is prime to turn blue with a major push in these closing weeks.

9/

foxnews.com/official-polls…
Sixth, Trump is running low on money.

So even though he's tied here, or behind, he is currently "dark" on television. He keeps cancelling all his TV ads because he wants to buy ads in Florida and other states. he can't afford it here.

So now is the moment to strike.

10/
Others are starting to catch on to the reality that Ohio is Biden's "best shot" at ending not just the Trump presidency, but the nightmarish plan of a contested race.

11/

news.yahoo.com/ohio-could-be-…
But to make this opportunity a reality, we desperately need your help

The other day, when I 1st tweeted about this, we raised more money than we ever have online in a single day

Now that Trump has doubled down and clarified his intention, we need even more help this time

12/
So whatever you can do to give, and to spread the word that a blue Ohio is not only possible, but ends all this, please do.

Thank you for your support.

True story: when I rolled out "Laboratories of Autocracy" and "Saving Democracy," insisting that we have to fight for democracy in every corner of every state, I heard from a lot of you.

But the most important political figures in America?

I didn't expect to hear much.

1/
And with a few exception (thank you @HillaryClinton ) I didn't.

But do you know the most senior elected leader who called me out of the blue (after a Morning Joe appearance) to say she agreed with what I was saying?

One guess.

It was @vp Harris.

2/
We talked for 20 minutes about how we have to fight for democracy not only at the federal level, but in state after state.

We talked about some of the states I've visited, and she asked what I was hearing.

We talked about her visits with statehouse leaders after Dobbs...

“In the end, it’s not the years in your life but the life in your years.”

A 🧵on Joe Biden's Legacy

I’ve seen the above quote attributed to a number of historic figures, but at the moment, no one personifies it better than Joe Biden.

1/
Yesterday’s announcement means he will serve just one term as President

But he sure put a whole lot of life and a whole lot of service to this nation into that single term:

He defeated Donald Trump, and navigated our nation through the first attempted coup in our history.

2/
He returned a sense of service, professionalism and common sense to government after Trump had turned it all upside down.

He lifted our economy out of a deep recession, fueling the strongest recovery in the world. So much so, Republicans keep taking credit for it!

Monday’s Ohio Purge

A 🧵

Across Ohio, voters are routinely removed from the rolls because they move to another county in the states, or out of state entirely, and they documented that move through what is called the National Change of Address (NCOA) form.

1/
But a few years back, a number of voters from Cuyahoga County (Cleveland) filled out the NCOA form indicating that they were moving from one part of Cuyahoga County to another address WITHIN the County.

2/
One woman moved from Cleveland to Parma, for example.

Another moved from North Olmstead to Berea.

A number moved from one street in Cleveland to another.

On Monday, almost 160,000 voter registrations are supposed to be purged in the state of Ohio.

False narratives: a 🧵

The media narrative on JD Vance has been absurd for years. As is the overall narrative about what ails the so-called “rust-belt.”

Both stem from a warped coastal view of the Midwest, looking for simplistic narratives, falling for the ruse…

1/ Image
On Vance, just as an example: when he moved back to Ohio from San Francisco, the New York Times for some reason let him run this op-Ed, allowing him to frame his move back to the Buckeye State as if it was a patriotic sacrifice.

He was giving up so much, he told us.

2/
Huh?

When I moved back to Ohio right after (the same) law school, I saw it the opposite way. Sure, I could have gone to good jobs in other places as well; I had those offers too

But there was great opportunity to be seized right in Cincinnati;

🚨 🚨

I see some pundits are asking why Ohio should have a virtual DNC roll call for the presidential nomination process.

The answer involves an attack on democracy that only Ohio Republicans engaged in, and the DNC’s laudable willingness to stand up to it.

A quick 🧵

1/
Here’s what I wrote to a DNC member who asked me about it:

“Here is why I strongly supported what the DNC did re Ohio, and sticking to that position now:

For the first time in modern memory, Ohio Republicans attached conditions…”

2/
to legislation that extended the deadline for a presidential nominee to be placed on the Ohio ballot. In the past, including in 2020, this has always been done as a matter of course, and for nominees of either party. Ohio also appears to be the only state in the nation…”

🚨 Did you know that JD Vance once attacked what he termed “the childless left”?

The guy literally said those without children have no “physical commitment to the future of this country”—“Why is this just a normal fact of … life for the leaders of our country to be people..

1/
…who don’t have a personal and direct stake in it via their own offspring?” He literally mentioned the names of a number of politicians who don’t have children.

I mean…Who. Does. That???

And then, of course, the guy also voted against protecting IVF both in the Senate…

2/
…and in Ohio.

He called universal childcare “class warfare.”

He praised Sandy Hook conspiracy theorist Alex Jones as “far more reputable source of information than Rachel Maddow.”

And he suggested women should stay in bad marriages, even violent ones.
