For those who know me well, my love for +sized women is never in doubt 🙈.
Early uni days, I met a lady, Lara(definitely not her name🙄), thick to a fault, with the right obstacles 😍. That obviously attracted me.Then,I'd always tease her about her hairy nature.. #PCOSWithMedPlus
'I'm the only hairy one in my house' she'd always say.
As we got close, she told me about her irregular menses & how she felt she sounded like a guy. She was also always buying one facial cream or the other.'Nawa o. Why?' I asked. Her response?
'Can't you see how rough my face is?'
Sadly, I couldn't exactly relate/help her. I was just in bloody 100 level😂
It was when I got to 400l that I realized that all Lara was telling me were seen in a condition called PCOS, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
PCOS is a problem with hormones that affects women during their childbearing years(ages 15-44).
The Ovaries are responsible for producing oestrogen & progesterone which gives a woman the endowment she has😉, regulates her menses & helps with ovulation & pregnancy #PCOSWithMedplus
We can't exactly say what causes PCOS but that high levels of male hormones prevent the ovaries from producing hormones & making eggs normally.
However, if there's a family history of PCOS, then there's increased risk.
Insulin is a hormone the pancreas makes to help the body breakdown sugar from foods.
Obesity causes INSULIN RESISTANCE&with this, the body’s demand for insulin increases. The pancreas makes more insulin & extra insulin makes the ovaries produce more male hormones. #PCOSWithMedplus
This condition is very common(1 in 3 ladies) & those who have it could notice;
-Irregular periods & when they see their period,it can be very heavy.
BUT!
Heavy/Irregular period ISN'T EQUAL TO PCOS!There are 1001 causes so see your doctor ASAP! @MedplusPharmacy #PCOSWithMedplus
Other symptoms?
- Lots of facial/body hair.(Alot of Igbo ladies have been mocked for this. O WRONG!😢)
-Acne
- Weight gain
- Loss of hair on your head/baldness
-Headaches
-Dark skin patches especially around neck, thighs & underneath the breasts.@MedplusPharmacy #PCOSWithMedplus
If you have noticed the above symptoms over a period of time, please see a Doctor for confirmation cos as I said, alot of conditions could present with these symptoms. @MedplusPharmacy
I was discussing with a lactating mum on BREASTFEEDING & was shocked at things she was saying about BREAST MILK🤯
Clearly, our African mothers have promoted certain MYTHS about BM😂 & I'll correct them👇
1. BM in the breasts goes BAD if not given to baby after long hours
FALSE!
BM in the breast NEVER goes BAD. It's not like a tank where water is stored. It's produced ON DEMAND &continually changes inside the breast to keep it fresh, perfect & meet the needs of the child per time
2. The initial BM produced after childbirth is BAD MILK
FALSE
That initial
BM(Colostrum)is VERY key for the growth & development of the baby with its high level of NUTRIENTS & ANTIBODIES
You'll be doing more harm to your baby if you throw it away😭
3.The BM that comes within the 1st 6months isn't enough for my baby so I must add something
FALSE😭
My Boss @genakhena shared with me the story of a friend who had a CARDIAC ARREST,slumped & died in the UK😢
You may be wondering,'CA can happen in the UK of all places'? Just shows that CA can happen,no matter the person,place/status
FACTORS THAT CAN INCREASE THE RISK of a CA👇
1st off,WHAT IS CARDIAC ARREST?
Cardiac arrest is when the HEART stops beating SUDDENLY due to a BLOCKAGE.
The lack of blood flow to the brain & other organs can lead to loss of consciousness,disability/death if not treated immediately.
I like to divide the RISK FACTORS into 2;
NON-MODIFIABLE(You have no control over these factors)
-Family history of CA/heart disease
-A previous episode of CA/Heart attack
-Age(CA risk increases with age, sadly these days,we have young people having CA😢)
-Gender(Males>>>)
-Race(Blacks>>>)
Back in medical school,Kidney damage used to be for old folks but these days,I see alot of young people needing DIALYSIS😢
Alot of us don't realise how key the KIDNEY is,we do alot of things that put our kidneys at risk of DAMAGE.
5 THINGS THAT CAN DAMAGE YOUR KIDNEYS EARLY!🧵
SALT
Some of us use salt like perfume, pouring salt in food till the gods start begging you. You put salt in white rice, dodo & even hold a salt bottle when eating🤦♂️
EXCESS salt means KIDNEYS can't clear excess water leading to HIGH BP=KIDNEY DAMAGE!
You only need 1 teaspoon/day!
WATER
How many cups of water have you had today? If na softdrink, alcohol etc,you carry 1st for that one🙄
Water is the FUEL kidneys needs to function well
Lack of water=dehydration
When your urine turns yellow,it isn't MALARIA,it's ur kidney crying for HELP!
I recall years ago when I 1st experienced a guest collapse at an event.I FROZE!& even though I was in med school then,I still panicked & was confused about what to do
Detty December is here & it's turn up everywhere,it's IMPORTANT to know what to do if you're in such a situation
While we don't pray for any funny health incidents to occur at events, life happens & we must be ready as whatever we do can be the difference btw LIFE & DEATH.
It's a THREAD!✏️🧵
A common health issue that can happen at events is FAINTING/LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS.
This is mostly due to stress/anxiety from planning OR alcohol.
1st thing to do is
1.CLEAR THE SCENE!When things like this happens, there's the tendency for everyone to crowd the person.LET THERE BE SPACE! The person on the ground needs air & he/she won't get it with crowd around.
A major feature associated with 'manhood' is EGO & nothing shatters that ego more than a seeming inability to sexually satisfy a woman. Premature ejaculation(PE) is a common issue in men, with 1 in 3 men experiencing it at some point in their lives.
Lets talk PE shall we?
PE is when you have an orgasm before intercourse/less than A MINUTE after you start. The question that follows this is;HOW LONG SHOULD SEX LAST FOR BEFORE A MAN RELEASES?Averagely,5-7mins.
There are reasons (good/bad) that will make a man spend less/more time before ejaculation.
If a 'quick release' happens once in a while, there's nothing to worry about but if it happens frequently, then you might need to seek help.
The exact CAUSE of PE isn't known, it is believed to be majorly PSYCHOLOGICAL but there are also biological factors involved.
1. The prostate is a small gland, the size of an AGBALUMO found around the urethra in men that produces the seminal fluid that nourishes & transports sperm. Thus Prostate Cancer affects the prostate. It's one of the commonest causes of male deaths in Nigeria. #LetsTalkProstateIn10
2. The cause is not clear but usually what happens is that the production of TESTOSTERONE is what sustains the prostate to sustain the sperm. So with testosterone production, the prostate gets bigger & bigger until it begins to obstruct the passage of urine/injure the urethra.
