The Finnish national Covid-19 contact tracing mobile app (by the @THLorg agency) has now been out for a month. Some notes:
The app has been downloaded 2.2 million time so far (Finland has 5.5 million people). We’ve had 1800 confirmed infected persons during this time. Of those, 600 persons were users of the app, and used the app to warn their potential contacts.
One of the people who received an exposure notification via the app was our prime minister. She quarantined, and tested healthy later.
Our government budgeted 6 million euros for the development and delivery of the app. So far, the project has used less than half of that.
The app is called #Koronavilkku. It uses the Apple/Google Exposure Notification API. And it is open source: github.com/THLfi/koronavi…. Use it.

Nowadays, barcodes can be found in nearly every product we buy in stores. Developed in the 1950s, barcodes were originally based on the Morse code.
The square-shaped QR codes were invented in the 1990s. The Japanese spare parts manufacturer, Denso Wave, developed the quick response (QR) code for marking spare parts packages in 1994. Pictured: Masahiro Hara of Denso Wave.
