Eliminate meritocracy?

The successor ideology has arisen because there has been a general realization that environmental changes are ineffective at equalizing outcomes.

The hereditarians effectively “won”.

Thus if you can’t equalize ability, you must eliminate ability.
The US actually spends more on education per pupil for minority students.

It didn’t work to eliminate the gap, because intelligence isn’t readily changeable by environment/intervention.

So when the SAT gap just got no better or, in fact, worse, the Left stopped lobbying for equal educational and other foundational resources (or an “input” mentality) and instead shifted to lobbying for equal outcomes (the “output” mentality).
It should be noted that the Left hasn’t completely abandoned the concept of environmentalism.

They have just created this concept of “systemic racism” as a secret sauce that somehow, through some unknown mechanism, prevents equal inputs from causing equal outputs.
Systemic racism is the concept you would create if you didn’t understand the concept of genetics.

“Why does this group with shared ancestry perform differently than this other group?”

“It must be systemic racism!”

It’s similar to doctors lacking the germ theory of disease.
Sandra Day O’Conner famously thought affirmative action would be redundant by 2028 and could be eliminated. Does anybody on earth believe this at this point?

Was 2003 the peak for this “environment is everything” belief?

This lie has been exposed.

Trhe painful truth is the discourse has shifted from inputs to outputs:

Out:
-Inc. funding for inner-city schools.
-Head Start
-Supplemental jobs training
-Application preferences
-Standardized exams

In:
-UBI
-Reparations
-Mandatory diversity staffing at all levels and jobs
In short, we don’t care about building a pipeline of qualified personnel anymore, because we figured out it doesn’t work

We can’t significantly change the inputs.

So we skipped right to demanding equality at the end product.
The battle of Nature vs Nurture is over.

It just hasn’t been explicitly admitted.

To see this, don’t look at the Left’s rhetoric - they will never, ever admit it.

Look at their list of demands.

Sam Harris: “The reality is that if we achieve a Utopia, then the only differences between individuals and groups will be will be genetic, it will amplify genetic inequality.”

Paige Harden: “You are totally right about that. And that’s a counterintuitive point.”
Harden continues: “So many educational interventions are pitched as we are going to close gaps...but when those interventions are universalized, they increase the average level of performance, but also the variance gets wider.”
This is the great dilemna and paradox of the Great Society: the more we equalize the environment and reduce social disparities, the more we highlight a remaining genetic disparity.

The carrot just gets farther away, not closer.
