Since we have so many misguided and unsolicited Twitter threads “advising” the young people protesting on what to do, I think it’s only fair that we create thread advising the actual government of the country on steps to take to #EndSARS
Step 1: CALM DOWN. The reason for the protests is police brutality. There is no political anything going on, so calm down. You have work to do and the work is plenty. So, step 1 is to calm down and get ready to work #EndSARS
Step 2: STOP LYING. Whether at State or Federal level, you have completely lost trust and credibility with the people. You need to stop telling lies. If you cannot do something say so, and if something bad happens, don’t deny it. Take responsibility! #EndSARS
Step 3: SCOPE OUT THE WORK. Now that you are calm and have started taking responsibility openly and often, you need a scope of work to be done. It must cover everything from short, medium and long term reforms to the Police and Justice Administration system #EndSARS
Step 4: COMMUNICATE. You need to communicate the full reform plan in person and via social media. Clearly and often. Communication is a two way street. So, you MUST expect feedback. Take the feedback with your chest. Refine the plan. Communicate again. #EndSARS
Step 5: IMPLEMENTATION. This is not the time for Committees and Audio Panels. You need to grab every single person that you need for implementation ASAP. Treat as urgent. Empower them, give them resources. Communicate. Hold them accountable #EndSARS
Step 6: BE ACCOUNTABLE. This is really not the time for business as usual. Maybe after the protests you can go back to that. For now, be accountable. Communicate daily, SHOW WORKINGS. Remove any persons that are blocking progress of the plan. Bring in capable new people #EndSARS
END OF THREAD. In terms of the people that you need to scope out the work, define the plan and implement. THEY EXIST ALREADY IN GOVERNMENT or in the private sector. Use your awesome power to find them, and listen to them. #EndSARS
The reason this thread is important is I want the young people to know that what they are asking for is LOGICAL and DOABLE. Do not allow yourselves to be GASLIGHTED. Government MUST do its work. It is not for you to do the work for them. Your own is to be a good citizen.

I CALL BULLSHIT. Detailed policy formulation, coordination and direction is the job of the elected government and legislators NOT young protesters in the streets. CALL THEM OUT.

I hate to use that overused term GASLIGHTING, but I am afraid that is the only term that accurately describes what the people making this dubious argument are doing. Gaslighting and disingenuity #EndSARS
And if the government wants to know the latest views of the young people on how they should do THEIR JOB THAT THEY GET PAID FOR, they have the phone numbers of all the people that are calling for "leaders" to be appointed. Ask those ones, they will tell you what to do. #EndSARS

Niger trades less than $5bn per annum with the world, both imports and exports. That's the TOTAL VALUE of their trade. The most valuable thing in that sum is Uranium, which goes to France. It requires special handling facilities and goes via the port in Cotonou
This is the sum total of the business opportunity which Nigeria is seeking to connect with by investing $2bn in a transformational rail project that will link Kano, Katsina and Jigawa to this great trade emporium.
Meanwhile, Nigeria trades nearly $90bn (both exports and imports) with the world, of which at least $40bn are imports in a good year. Most of those imports are sea bound.

The ports and rail lines in Nigeria are an uncompetitive mess requiring massive investment to overhaul.

I always come back to agree with the people who say the problem is not a lack of understanding economics. It's different visions of society. Different ideas about human rights and human agency.
If your starting point is that all humans are capable of rational economic decisions, and that humans have the right to buy and sell whatever they want as long as it is not harmful to another human, you can NEVER arrive at border closure and import bans as acceptable policy.
If your starting point is that all humans have the right to aspire to an economic status higher than what their father or grandfather was born into, you will hate anything leading to inflation. You'll prioritize security, education, healthcare, infrastructure over agriculture.
