What Mumbai Police has done with Pradeep Bhandari @pradip103 of @republic is totally unacceptable. It is a violation of law and amounts to a mockery of the judicial process. Pradeep had secured anticipatory bail. Yet he was detained for close to 8 hours, his phones seized. 1/n
The police is not above the law of India. This brazen abuse of power is to signal to all that questions will not be tolerated, criticism will be silenced. If you defy, your liberty will be curtailed, #FreeSpeech will be denied. The police behaved like this during Emergency. 2/n
As someone associated with media for close to four decades I am appalled and feel morally compelled to protest against this outrage. I'd call upon others in media to protest too. Silence is not an option. Follow your moral compass, if you have one. 3/n

So @Facebook continues to brazenly intervene to influence #USElection2020
Question: How to lock out Big Tech from politics so as democratic processes are not contaminated or subverted by perverse algo or woke #LeftLiberal staff? Can democracies join hands to stop this threat?
Is Big Tech now a Big Threat to the foundational principles of democratic values, freedom and liberty? Social Media platforms like @Facebook and @Twitter are being weaponised to subvert the fundamentals of democracies. #Election2020

Working on a book on plight of Hindu Bengali refugees from East Pakistan as perceived through Bangla literature. Learned that my father, his widowed mother, his siblings, and all others who fled to #India 1947-50, were classified as 'Permanent Liability' by Nehru Government. 1/n
Rare if any is the Bengali Hindu refugee who became a 'Permanent Liability' for Government of #India -- either during the lifetime of Nehru who coined the term or in the following 7 decades. Our parents toiled night and day to rebuild their lives without any sarkari support. 2n
Unlike Punjabi/Sindhi-speaking Hindu refugees from West Pakistan, #Bengali #Hindu refugees were offered nothing by Nehru. The overcrowded, squalid, disease infested 'Permanent Liability Camps' were and remain a blot on the conscience, if he had any, of Nehru and his flunkies. 3n

If AIIMS doctors working on a confidential forensic report sought by CBI merrily leak details to #media unmindful of their remit,
A) The report's credibility is open to question;
B) The integrity of the forensic team is dubious.
Reject the report. It's worthless now. 1n
The AIIMS forensic team was expected to do a professional job. What the on-tape leaks, in violation of all canons of confidentiality, suggest is that members of the team have no sense of professional integrity. It is immaterial whether their findings are right or wrong. 2n
That members of the AIIMS forensic team have had neither qualms nor compunctions about leaking details of their findings to media shows how terribly hobbled the investigative process is in #India. Media gets to know the forensic team's findings before CBI does. What a joke. 3n

Loathsome 'cancel culture' rears its unsightly head in #India as @BloomsburyIndia dumps book on Delhi riot under pressure from bully #LeftLiberal activists and Islamists. Book was due to be published in September. This is a new low. All who believe in freedom should protest. 1/n
The English language publishing industry was never fair. It was always biased towards politically correct books by #LeftLiberal authors. @BloomsburyIndia has now shown the English-language publishers for what they are: a spineless lot willing to crawl and be used as doormats. 2/n
At another time in another era libraries like Nalanda were ransacked and books destroyed by invaders. Less than a 100 years ago we saw libraries being destroyed and books being burned by Nazis. In recent times Islamists have destroyed and proscribed books. 3/n

Some of us have longer memory. Rajiv Gandhi never denied that he had had Ram Janmabhoomi gate unlocked in 1986, and that it was done through Arun Nehru. In 1989 he allowed shilanyas and launched Congress's poll campaign from Faizabad, dist HQ of #Ayodhya. indiatoday.in/amp/india/stor…
The many 'whys' he did what he did are not for Twitter. Story begins with VHP Ekatmata Yatra in 1983 followed by Ram Janki Rath Yatras in 1984. Indira Gandhi supported both (some say for cynical reasons). 1986 unlocking and 1989 shilanyas were a planned, calculated continuation.
There is no call to give a 'clean chit' to Rajiv Gandhi. He was a smart politician who had learned politics well from his mother. 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom, banning of 'Satanic Verses', subversion of Shah Bano, Ayodhya, etc will not vanish into thin air because a Doon buddy says so.

The grievance relates to #Maharashtra. 'Industries' and 'Land' are State List subjects. The aggrieved entrepreneur and those who busily circulated his grievance should have known Centre has no role in framing State laws on these subjects. 1/n Image
That apart, a mistake by a petty babu in the revenue office of a district in Maharashtra (as has been clarified by the entrepreneur now) is by no stretch of the wildest of imaginations a flaw in ease of doing business policies of the Government of India. 2/n
Land (a State List subject) conversion from agricultural land to non-agricultural land cannot and must not be a filter-less process. Just because someone is the owner of a plot of agricultural land, she/he cannot decide on her/his own to convert its use. 3/n
