If in reading justice, oppression, and liberation passages in the Bible you consider them as having only spiritual application, you have—among other things—a profound misunderstanding of the Incarnation.

The physical presence of God, from newborn baby to full adulthood, is evidence that the physical aspect of God’s creation has profound meaning to God.

Jesus healed and fed not just to prove spiritual truths but because he had compassion on people in their physical needs.

In his first recorded synagogue sermon (Luke 4) Jesus reads Isaiah’s prophecy about captives freed and sick made well, then said the prophecy was made full in himself.

Anyone who writes off his sermon as merely spiritual in application misunderstands the life of Christ.

You might ask whether anyone actually gives the sermon in Luke 4 merely spiritual application. Yes. I’ve pointed to it in support of pursuing justice for others, and then been told Jesus was talking merely about spiritual oppression, etc.

But it’s so much more.

Do you know how to end #pandemic protocols? Follow pandemic protocols.

It’s that easy.

Churches meeting indoors with everyone crowded together is not a bold step for your faith.

Churches meeting outdoors with everyone crowding together under pop up awnings isn’t helping anyone.

Comparing warehouse stores to churches is like saying a quiet evening at home is equivalent to being in the mosh pit at a Sex Pistols concert.

One is vastly less likely to spread COVID than the other.

I see white Christians trying to tell Black Christians that the Black Church is unbiblical because there’s only one church and it’s not black or white. Thanks for the theology lesson. Now here’s a history lesson:

The Black Church did not develop out of an aspiration by Black people to separate themselves from white people. Rather, white people aspired to exclude Black people from fellowship. This white aspiration is what is unbiblical.

The Black Church is not born of aspiration but frustration. White people barred Black people, frustrating their desire to fellowship with whites as equal members of the body of Christ, equal image bearers of God, and equally indwelt by the Spirit.

1. The “Statement on Social Justice and the Gospel” perverts both the gospel and one of its components, social justice.

2. The first paragraph of the statement’s introduction asserts there is “an onslaught of dangerous and false teachings that threaten the gospel.” This is error.

The reality is that the gospel is not threatened by lies, and falsehoods pose no danger to it.
3. The statement’s introduction then identifies the culprit as social justice but places the phrase in quotes, allowing the reader to assume that social justice is not a real concern for those seeking to live out the gospel of Jesus.
