It’s #SettlerSaturday and Canada is a shit show. Here is a thread of all of the ongoing attacks on Indigenous folks and how you can support them.
1. The Mi’kma’ki “Lobster Dispute” but really it’s a bunch of racist white fishermen attacking Indigenous people practicing their treaty rights. This is an onslaught and the government is doing nothing about it. Donate here:…
2. 1492 LandBack Lane

It was day 90 yesterday and Six Nations land defenders are still being arrested and targeted for protecting their land from development. The legal fees are mounting. You can donate via etransfer:
3. 30 years after unresolved land disputes continue, Oka has given the go ahead to do an archaeological dig on Kanehsatá:ke territory without prior consent. Sign the petition here.…
4. The Algonquins of Barriere Lake have been calling for a moose moratorium due to declining numbers for the last 3 years. Moose are an important part of their culture and the Quebec government has done little to protect the animal. EMTs can be sent to
5. The Tiny House Warriors continue to protect Secwepmec territory from the expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline. They have been the victims of attacks and targeted by non-Natives. They’re being criminalized for protecting their own land. Donate at
6. The Unist’ot’en camp are still defending Wet’suwet’en land from the Coastal Gaslink Pipeline.
Here is the 2020 supporters toolkit, including donation links and fundraiser protocol
7. On September 24, Joyce Echaquan was murdered in hospital after recording racist remarks from the nurses via Facebook. In the video she was screaming for help, telling them that they were giving her the wrong medicine, and the nurses didn’t listen.…
8. Two weeks after Joyce’s murder, an investigation is underway at another Quebec hospital for the murder of Atikamekw man Georges-Herve Awashish after he told his cousins he hears racist remarks from the staff before his death. There isn’t even anywhere to donate to his family
but the systemic racism in Canada needs to be addressed. Medical racism is killing us. White supremacy is killing us.

I had a lot of replies to my thread expressing how they were “shocked” at the events taking place across Canada targeting Indigenous people or that it was a “devastating” thread.

I want to make it very clear: these attacks are not new.

This shouldn’t be surprising to people.
Canada is built on the oppression and genocide of Indigenous people. The government and its people have fought us every step of the way. We have always been seen as the “Indian Problem” that needs to be solved.
There was a report that came out recently about how CSIS (Canada’s CIA) monitors Indigenous people because Indigenous resistance threatens Canada’s sovereignty. We’ve always been the targets.

Okay, I have to go off.

There is NO WAY Cherry is faking any of their disabilities. I’ve known them for over 5 years now, I have chatted with them about their pain, I have heard their stories and seen their photos of everything they’ve been through.

This is a disgusting rumour.
Cherry has been my main champion and support as I’ve navigated my own disabilities, hospital visits, and injuries. I’m appalled that people could sink to this level, to question their disabilities because of what? Their success? Their talent?

Jealousy makes people into monsters.
I’m so enraged by this I can’t even find the words to describe how wrong this is. Cherry is the sweetest, most gentle and kind soul I’ve ever met and the fact this toxicity is even remotely close to them ignites the most virulent anger I’ve felt in a long time.

CW: Hospitals / Racism / Injuries

A thread: (it may be a long one)

The more time that passes the more I realize how traumatic my experience at the hospital was. I hope Canadians realize that Joyce Echaquan’s murder and the treatment she faced beforehand wasn’t an anomaly.
Upon registration at the hospital, I was asked if I was Indigenous, and I was in so much pain I didn’t think to ask why. I just said yes. I couldn’t even sit down during the intake because of how much pain I was in. Eventually I was moved to a bed in a room with another person.
There was a divider up so I couldn’t see who I was sharing my room with. The nurse didn’t even talk to me, she just called my name and pointed. Anyways, I stayed here for six hours. No one checked on me. I wasn’t given a call button or anything. I was just stuck in this room.
