Tonight Trump is, once again, leading a political rally that debases the presidency, flouts the rule of law & emboldens extremists in the very state where a domestic terrorism plot was just disrupted. For over four years I've written, tweeted & spoken out against this insanity...
Let's try something new tonight. Instead of drawing attention to the latest video of him calling on his opponents to be jailed - a refrain befitting a tyrant - I'm going to donate to his political opponents. Starting with @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris who will bring dignity back...
...and who will, even though I won't agree with them on every policy, respect the rule of law, won't solicit & welcome foreign interference in the election to help them win, and will competently implement a plan to bring the coronavirus pandemic under control...
Next up on the donation list is @CaptMarkKelly in his race to unseat Martha McSally, who voted against impeachment despite resounding evidence and has stood by Trump all the way. Kelly & his wife @GabbyGiffords are American heroes...
Next up is @harrisonjaime who is in a tight race with Lindsay Graham in South Carolina, who also voted against impeachment despite the evidence and who has lent his own considerable credibility to Trump...
Two to go. Former US Attorney & current Sen @DougJones in Alabama is being challenged. The Republican Senate failed in their duty to hold the president accountable, Jones did his...
And, finally, a donation to @ReverendWarnock. Because, Kelly Loeffler. And again, it just can't be OK for members of Congress - even if of the same party - to look the other way when a president abuses the office of the presidency. As Trump has. Repeatedly.

Four years of the Trump administration have included a lot of awful. At the top of the list, and a lasting legacy for the administration and anyone who touched it, is the DOJ/DHS justification for and implementation of #FamilySeparation in the immigration context...
Family separation as implemented by the Trump administration was a punitive tactic from the start. That's the key to what makes it not only morally reprehensible, but unlawful, as implemented...
Earlier this month the @nytimes team of @shearm @ktbenner @nytmike reported that DOJ was fully on board with family separation as a deterrent mechanism nytimes.com/2020/10/06/us/…

Today's report from @jaketapper & @ZcohenCNN reveals a big step backwards in congressional intelligence oversight, involving critical threats to the election. A few thoughts to follow... cnn.com/2020/08/29/pol…
The excuse that information might be leaked is an age old executive branch justification for not wanting to provide intelligence information to Congress. But that's exactly what the intelligence committees were created for. For more background: cnas.org/publications/r…
The intelligence committees receive information a variety of ways: written documents and reports, briefings, and hearings. The ability of members to be able to ask questions, especially in classified session, is critical for them to conduct effective oversight...

The developing coalition to make Trump a one term president and move this country forward from the grip of his incompetent and corrupt hold on the office of the presidency is one I've longed to see for years, and so I'm hopeful. It's been a long road to get here, though...
As one who observed & spoke out very early on of the threat he posed from a national security and rule of law perspective, the willingness of so many who knew better to join up with his campaign and his administration, was beyond frustrating... lawfareblog.com/if-you-care-ab…
It took a long time for me to understand how there were some who actually thought he would grow into the role of president, and that he would surround himself with knowledgeable advisors, when it seemed so obvious from the campaign of 2016 that he was incapable of it...

A few highlights from my @CNASdc report on DHS, issued in May, in light of recent events in Portland and Trump's politicization of federal law enforcement generally and DHS specifically: cnas.org/research/congr…
The entire premise of the report was that DHS oversight & accountability as it relates to border security, immigration and law enforcement components had not kept pace with expanding size and scope of activities, and the department was headed for a collision w/civil liberties...
As the report introduction states, DHS' varying and disparate missions require substantial attention to whether and how they are carried out in accordance with the law and constitutional protections...

"I feel compelled to respond both to broad claims that our investigation was illegitimate and our motives were improper, and to specific claims that Roger Stone was a victim of our office" - fmr Special Counsel Robert Mueller washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…
"Russia's actions were a threat to America's democracy. It was critical that they be investigated and understood." - Mueller
Stone "lied repeatedly to members of Congress. He lied about the identity of his intermediary to WikiLeaks. He lied about the existence of written communications with his intermediary. He lied by denying he had communicated with the Trump campaign about the timing....

The purge at ODNI continues, with Ric Grenell inflicting maximum damage in his short tenure as acting DNI by ousting NCTC director who had voiced concerns to the IG - who also was fired. Details from @woodruffbets politi.co/3iNi9yJ via @politico
Report by @woodruffbets confirms that Grenell was as bad as he was expected to be, firing chief counterterrorism head and his deputy, then slashing agency's budget before listening to anyone who knows anything...
Also, important quote from ousted NCTC head here, on the risk of backsliding on counterterrorism:
